Grizzlies Sweep Aces In Doubleheader
April 23, 2010 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Reno Aces News Release
FRESNO, Calif.-A blown save in game one and offensive struggles in the nightcap sealed Reno's fate Thursday night, as the Fresno Grizzlies swept a doubleheader over the Aces at Chukchansi Park.
In the opener, Reno led 4-3 heading into the seventh and final inning. But a double, sacrifice bunt and sacrifice fly for Fresno would send the game into extra innings. In the bottom of the 10th inning, Fresno's Ben Copeland walked, stole second, advanced to third on an error and came around to score the game-winner on a wild pitch for a 5-4 Grizzlies victory.
Daniel Stange (3-1) took the loss, despite not allowing an earned run. Steve Edlefsen (2-0) was credited with the win. Reno managed just six hits, with no player recording a multi-hit effort.
In the nightcap, the Aces offense was limited to just three hits, while Reno's defense committed three errors. Making a spot start, Zach Kroenke (1-2) surrendered three runs-just one earned-over three innings of work in a losing effort for the Aces. Henry Sosa (1-0) collected the victory out of the Grizzlies bullpen, holding Reno to just one hit over three frames.
Doug Deeds and Ed Rogers each collected two hits and a run scored on the evening for the Aces.
The series comes to a close on Friday night from Chukchansi Park. RHP Matt Torra (0-1, 3.00 ERA) gets the ball for Reno. LHP Horacio Ramirez (0-0, 8.10 ERA) will get the nod for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m., and the action can be heard live on Fox Sports Radio 1450 AM or online at www.RenoAces.com.
The Aces return home Saturday, April 24 for a four-game series against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox. Tickets for all Aces games start at just $7, and are available by calling the Reno Aces box office at (775) 334-7000 or by visiting www.RenoAces.com.
