MEMPHIS, TN - Iowa avoided a series sweep with a 6-0 shutout victory over Memphis Friday night at a rain-soaked AutoZone Park.
Iowa jumped on Redbirds starter Evan MacLane for two runs in the first two innings and cruised to victory. Darwin Barney's RBI-double drove in a run and Brad Snyder's RBI-single in the fifth extended the Cubs lead. Barney finished the day with two hits, two RBI and two runs scored along with Matt Camp's four hits to lead the I-Cubs. Shane Robinson led Memphis with three hits.
Cubs starter J.R. Mathes picked up the win with eight scoreless innings scattering five this and fanning three. MacLane took the loss for the Redbirds giving up four runs on 11 hits in eight innings of work.
Memphis plays at Oklahoma City tomorrow night with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The âBirds will send Lance Lynn to the hill against the RedHawks Brandon McCarthy. The post-game fireworks show was postponed until May 28. A ticket to tonight's game is redeemable for any future Redbirds game.
