OMAHA, NE - The Omaha Royals have teamed up with Papillion Sanitation to introduce a new recycling initiative in the Omaha metro area. Papillion Sanitation's Recycle Equals Rewards program debuted at Rosenblatt Stadium when the Royals opened their season on Thursday, April 8. The first pickup of recyclables at homes that sign up for the program will occur on Monday, May 3.

The Royals place over 30 Papillion Sanitation recycling bins all around Rosenblatt for each of the team's 72 home games this season. A 30-second commercial airs on the stadium's video board each game encouraging fans to deposit their cans and bottles into the bins to be recycled.

"It's a wonderful opportunity to get the recycling initiative started," said Erica Johnson, District Sales Manager of Waste Connections, parent company of Papillion Sanitation. "We are very happy to partner with the Omaha Royals so we can have a presence in historic Rosenblatt Stadium."

Another way that Papillion Sanitation is promoting the new program is the sponsorship of a between-innings promotion on the field during all eleven Thirsty Thursday games that the Royals play this season. It involves two teams of fans trying to toss baseballs into three Papillion Sanitation recycling bins on each side of the stadium. The winning team earns a free T-shirt toss for its base side.

"We are proud to not only partner with Papillion Sanitation, but to continue our community-minded initiatives with the new recycling program at the ballpark," said Martie Cordaro, Royals Vice President/General Manager. "This is something our fans asked for in surveys the team conducted last season and we are happy to have answered."

The Royals next game at Rosenblatt Stadium is Saturday, April 24 at 7:05 p.m. when the Albuquerque Isotopes visit to begin a four-game series. That night the first 1,500 fans will receive George Brett powder blue jerseys, courtesy of Conagra.
