TONIGHT: The RedHawks conclude their series at Memphis looking to complete a sweep of the 4-game set. OKC won their third straight in Memphis and sixth straight overall with a 6-2 decision yesterday. The RedHawks have won two straight series, having taken three out of four from Round Rock at the end of the previous homestand. Brandon McCarthy makes his third start of the year for the RedHawks. It will be his first career appearance against the Redbirds. Righthander Lance Lynn starts for Memphis. The RedHawks are first in the American South, 2 games up on New Orleans and Albuquerque. Memphis is tied for third, 4 games behind Nashville in the American North.
HOLLAND TAKES HOME PITCHER OF WEEK: OKC lefty Derek Holland has been named the PCL's first Pitcher of the Week. Holland has won his last 2 starts with scoreless performances, most recently yesterday. Holland has not allowed a run in 14.2 consecutive innings dating to a solo homer by Albuquerque's Michael Restovich on April, 8, which remains Holland's only run allowed in 19.2 innings this season. Holland has a 0.46 ERA, which is fourth in the league, but he has the most innings with 19.2. OKC had the distinction of having the first Pitcher of the Week in 2009, when Luis Mendoza took home the honor.
WINNING STREAK DETAILS: The RedHawks' 6-game winning streak matches its longest of 2009. During the streak, the team has allowed a total of 8 earned runs in 54 innings, a 1.33 ERA. Offensively, OKC is 57-for-199 at the plate during the streak, a .286 average, with 7 home runs and 35 runs.
TEAM RANKINGS: OKC's 2.77 team ERA is third in the league behind Colorado Springs (2.16) and Nashville (2.67). The RedHawks have the league's best WHIP (walks plus hits vs. innings pitched) at 1.12. The RedHawks share the league lead with 2 shutouts. Entering today, the RedHawks led the PCL in on-base percentage (.378) and were second in team batting (.298) and slugging (.480).
TRACKING TRACY: Chad Tracy enters play today tied for second in the league with 4 home runs and tied for third with 12 RBIs. Tracy's .681 slugging percentage is seventh in the PCL.
SMOAK RISING: Justin Smoak brings a 9-game on-base streak into today's contest. During that time he's 12-for-30 (.400) with 1 homer, 4 RBIs and 9 walks. Smoak entered today's games tied for the PCL lead in walks with 11 with Omaha's Kila Ka'aihue, who played this afternoon. Smoak is fourth in on-base percentage at .490.
DOT...DOT...DOT: The RedHawks have not been out-hit this year...they have collected more hits than the opposition 8 times (6-2) and had an even hit total three times (2-1)...the hits were 9-9 yesterday, snapping a stretch where OKC had out-hit the opposition in 6 straight...OKC has hit into 17 double plays while turning 6 in the field...Gregorio Petit has played every inning at shortstop, the only RedHawk to have manned one position for the entire season...RedHawks hitters struck out a season-high 13 times yesterday after establishing a previous season mark with 12 on Saturday.
SALTALAMACCHIA JOINS OKC FOR REHAB: Texas Rangers catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia has joined the RedHawks for a major league rehab assignment, although he is not expected to play tonight. After being Texas' opening-day catcher April 5 and turning in a pinch hit at-bat April 7, he went on the 15-day DL April 8 with a left upper back strain. Last season, Saltalamacchia experienced shoulder problems in early August and started only four games after Aug. 4, eventually undergoing surgery for Thoracic Outlet Syndrome Sept. 21. More information on him can be found on page 5 of today's notes.
