PCL Names Players Of The Week

Published on April 19, 2010 under Pacific Coast League (PCL1) News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Albuquerque first baseman John Lindsey and Oklahoma City starting pitcher Derek Holland have been named the Pacific Coast League's Player and Pitcher of the Week for April 8-18, the league announced Monday.

Lindsey, 33, paced the circuit with a .538 batting average, .591 on-base percentage and 10 extra- base hits during the opening stretch of the season for the Isotopes, the Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers. He had seven multi-hit games, including a monster effort on April 15 in which he went 4-for-5 with three doubles, a home run, four runs scored and three runs batted in. Lindsey also scored 13 times during the week, collected 21 hits, walked twice and was hit-by- the-pitch three times.

The veteran right-handed hitter is in his fourth season in the PCL, having played for Las Vegas in 2007-08 and New Orleans in 2009. Including his red-hot start, he has career PCL splits of .304/.383/.538 with 66 home runs, 92 doubles, 284 runs batted in and 202 runs scored. Despite the prolific numbers, Lindsey has yet to earn his first major-league promotion.

Holland, 23, went 2-0 with a 0.46 ERA in a league-best 19 2-3 innings pitched over three starts, finishing the week with 14 2-3 consecutive scoreless innings after allowing a fifth-inning solo home run on April 8. He was particularly impressive with men on base, recording 10 of his 15 strikeouts out of the stretch and holding opponents to a .192 batting average.

The 6-2, 195-pound lefthander was the Texas Rangers' No. 2-rated prospect by Baseball America entering the 2009 season, in which he compiled an 8-13 record and 6.12 ERA in the majors. Now in his first full season in Triple-A, Holland has a chance to regain his top-prospect status for the RedHawks, who finished the opening week tied for the PCL's best record at 8-3.
