TONIGHT: The RedHawks and New Orleans Zephyrs meet in the second of a 4-game series at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. OKC snapped a 6-game losing streak with a 9-4 win in yesterday's opener and lead the season series 7-6. The RedHawks have won 5 straight against New Orleans. The RedHawks will start righthander Elizardo Ramirez, who is 1-1 with a 4.85 ERA in 2 starts against New Orleans this season. The Zephyrs counter with former RedHawk lefty John Koronka, 1-1 with a 5.63 ERA in 2 starts against OKC.

STREAKS END: The RedHawks scored more runs yesterday in a 9-4 win than they did in the previous series at Iowa, a 5-game sweep at the hands of the Cubs. OKC collected 8 hits in the Iowa series. Yesterday's win snapped a 4-game home losing streak and a season-high equaling 6-game skid overall. The RedHawks drew a season-high 13 walks, the second-highest walk total in the PCL this year behind a 14-walk game by Salt Lake pitching at Reno in an 11-inning contest June 12. The 13 walks are the most in a 9-inning game this year in the PCL.
AUGUST RECAP: The RedHawks went 12-19 in August, amassing the second-fewest wins in the league ahead of Portland's 11-19 mark. OKC opened the month 3.5 games back of Albuquerque in the division race and finished the month 9.5 back while maintaining sole possession of second place. OKC batted a league-low .237 in August, but belted 20 homers, which matched July for the most home runs by the team in a month.
CHECKING OUT...The RedHawks experienced a barrage of player moves today with major league active rosters expanding. Rehabbers Brandon McCarthy and Esteban German re-joined Texas. Outfielder Brandon Boggs was recalled and placed on the 60-day DL after playing through a left shoulder dislocation, ending his season. The Rangers recalled pitchers Guillermo Moscoso and Warner Madrigal and purchased the contract of catcher Kevin Richardson.
CHECKING IN...Texas signed outfielder Kevin Thompson as a free agent today. The 29-year-old former New York Yankee and Oakland Athletic has played in independent leagues for Newark and Ft. Worth this season. Catcher Zach Zaneski was promoted from Class A Spokane to back up Max Ramirez, while outfielder Jared Bolden was promoted from Class A Hickory.
QUICK START: The RedHawks scored in the first inning yesterday, the first time they've scored a first-inning run since Aug. 22. They went 9 games without one. The RedHawks have gone 18 games dating to Aug. 12 without a multiple-run first inning. The last time the RedHawks scored multiple runs in the first inning was Aug. 12 at Fresno, when Chris Davis hit a 2-run homer. OKC has allowed the first run in 3 of the last 4 games, 6 out of 8 and 13 of the last 17 games.
DOT...DOT...DOT...The RedHawks squared their record in series openers yesterday at 17-17...OKC improved to 7-0 when Esteban German played second base...the only other perfect records with a player in a certain position are 1-0 marks when Casey Benjamin starts at third base and when German served as the DH.
NEW NAME FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME: The Bricktown Showdown, which the PCL champion has won all three years it's been played, is now the Triple-A Baseball National Championship Game. The annual meeting of the playoff champions from the International and Pacific Coast Leagues takes place at Oklahoma City's AT&T Bricktown Ballpark Sept. 22 at 6 pm CDT and will be broadcast live again this season on ESPN2 and Westwood One radio.
