Rodriguez Completes Angels Trade for Kazmir

SALT LAKE CITY (September 1, 2009) - The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announced today that Bees infielder Sean Rodriguez will be sent to the Tampa Bay Rays as the player to be named later, completing the trade for left-handed pitcher Scott Kazmir. The announcement was made by Angels general manager Tony Reagins.

In the August 28 trade, the Rays also acquired left-handed pitcher Alex Torres from Double-Arkansas and infielder Matt Sweeney from Single-A Rancho Cucamonga.

Rodriguez, 24, appeared in 103 games for the Bees in 2009, hitting .299 with 81 runs, 17 doubles, six triples, 29 home runs and 93 RBI. He ranked second in the Pacific Coast League in home runs and slugging percentage (.616), and tied for third in RBI.

Rodriguez had two stints with the Angels in 2009. He was first recalled from Salt Lake on June 13 (optioned July 4) and was then called up July 31 (optioned August 5). In 2009, he hit .200 with four runs, two home runs and four RBI in nine games (two starts) with the Angels.

A native of Miami, Fla., Rodriguez was selected by the Angels in the third round of the 2003 free agent draft and spent seven seasons in the Angels organization. He owns a .282 average with 141 doubles, 29 triples, 105 home runs and 394 RBI in 739 minor league games.

The Salt Lake Bees continue the team's final regular season road trip tonight against the Tacoma Rainiers at 8 p.m. The team returns home on Friday, September 4 to begin the final four games of the 2009 regular season against the Sacramento River Cats.
