Reno Aces News Release

RENO, Nev.- Josh Whitesell had a three-hit, two-RBI night for Reno, but division champion Sacramento was too much for the Aces Monday night, as the River Cats slugged their way to a 17-6 victory over Reno at Aces Ballpark.

Sacramento jumped out to a 5-0 lead before Reno came to the plate in the first inning, and cruised the rest of the evening. The Aces chipped away, cutting the lead to 10-6 in the sixth inning. Cole Gillespie blasted a two-run homer to center field in the fifth, and Whitesell added an RBI-single in the sixth, but that was as close as Reno would get the rest of the evening.

Aces starter Seth Etherton (10-8) was roughed up for 10 runs in five innings of work, striking out three but giving up four River Cats home runs.

Chad Reineke (9-4) got the win for Sacramento despite being touched up for six runs over 5.2 innings of work. Three River Cats relievers held the Aces in check the rest of the way.

The Aces pounded out 13 hits in the loss, with Whitesell (3-for-5, 2 RBI) and Luke Carlin (3-for-5, run scored) leading the way. Gillespie added two RBIs with his 11th long-ball of the season.

Sacramento was led by Chris Carter, who hit three home runs and drove in seven.

The series continues Tuesday night as Reno sends RHP Tony Barnette (12-8, 5.85 ERA) to the hill to face River Cats LHP Dana Eveland (8-6, 4.94 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. P.T.
