TODAY'S OPPONENT:
The Memphis Redbirds are the Triple-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals. They have been a member of the Pacific Coast League since 1998. Last season, the Redbirds finished third in the American North with a record of 58-86.
VS. MEMPHIS:
The RedHawks lead the season series 9-6. The RedHawks took three of four July 16-19 at Memphis. The Hawks took three of four April 13-16 at The Brick. The Redbirds took three of four to start the season at AutoZone Park April 5-8. Last season, the RedHawks won the season series 11-5.
TODAY'S GAME:
This is game 124 of the season, and the finale of a 4-game series between Oklahoma and Memphis. This is the last of 16 meetings between the RedHawks and Redbirds this season.
LAST GAME:
The RedHawks won their second straight game, defeating the Redbirds 5-1 last night. For the second straight night, the RedHawks scored a first inning run on a Victor Diaz RBI single. The Hawks added two more runs on three hits in the second to take a 3-0 lead. The Hawks added two more insurance runs in the eighth on Travis Metcalf's 2-RBI double to make the final score 5-1. Starter Eric Hurley pitched seven strong innings for the win, allowing one run on three hits. Scott Feldman and Franklyn German eached pitched a scoreless inning to finish the game.
PITCHING MATCHUP: Armando Galarraga
returns from Double-A Frisco to make his second start of the season for the RedHawks. He was 9-6 with a 4.02 ERA for the RoughRiders. He lost his only start this season as a RedHawk May 21 at Omaha, allowing six runs on eight hits in six innings. Galarraga hasn't faced the Redbirds in his career. Blake Hawksworth goes to the mound for the Redbirds. Hawksworth is 0-1 with a 2.45 ERA in two starts against the RedHawks this season.
FINDING HOMEFIELD ADVANTAGE:
The RedHawks have won back-to-back games at The Brick for the first time since July 24-26th against Portland. They are 8-16 in their last 24 home games. The Hawks have a 4.91 ERA at home during that stretch.
OFFENSE LOOKING FOR RUNS:
The RedHawks have scored 32 runs in their last 11 games, going 4-7. The Hawks are hitting just .253 with eight homers over the last 11 games.
HITTING HULETT: Tug Hulett
has an RBI in each of the last two games after going 1-for-4 with an RBI last night. He's hitting .343 since June 27th, raising his batting average 43 points to .281. Hulett is 6-for-12 with three doubles, a home run and two RBIs in this series.
RELAFORD AT THE PLATE: Desi Relaford
continues to hit since rejoining the RedHawks, going 1-for-4 with a run last night. He is hitting .389 (14-36) with a homer and four RBIs since rejoining the team Aug. 5. Relaford has at least two hits in five of his last seven games.
LUCKY SEVENS:
Edinson Volquez, Chris Baker, and Hurley have combined to allow only two runs in this series, making it through the seventh inning in all three games.
FELDMAN GETS IT DONE IN RELIEF: Scott Feldman
hasn't allowed an earned run in his last seven appearances out of the bullpen, dating back to Aug. 3. He has allowed just four hits while striking out seven in 7.2 innings. Feldman threw a scoreless inning, striking out two Redbirds last night.
LEAGUE LEADERS: Freddy Guzman
leads the league with 43 stolen bases. Tug Hulett is fourth with 84 runs scored.
DOT-DOT-DOT:
The RedHawks are 11-7 on Friday this season, and they're 13-17 in the last game of a series...the RedHawks have lost four of their last five home series...the RedHawks have at least one extra-base hit in 18 straight games... Victor Diaz has 26 RBIs in his last 27 games...Nate Gold has six homers and 15 RBIs in 15 August games...
