
Beavers Sign Portland Native Clark

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Beavers today signed outfielder Brady Clark, a Portland native who attended Sunset High School. Additionally, left-handed pitcher Matt Teague was transferred to Portland from Class A Eugene, left-handed pitcher Joe Thatcher was placed on the Beavers' active roster after being optioned by San Diego on Thursday, infielder Frank Menechino was placed on the disabled list (retroactive to Aug. 15) with a right ankle sprain and Mike Sansoe was placed on the disabled list (retroactive to Aug. 15) with right shoulder soreness.
Clark, 34, started the season with the Los Angeles Dodgers, batting .224 with four doubles and five RBIs in 47 games. Clark was designated for assignment by the Dodgers on June 10 and released June 20. He later signed with the Boston Red Sox organization on July 26, batting .263 (5-for-19) with one home run and three RBIs in five games with Triple-A Pawtucket.
In 757 games played over eight major league seasons with Cincinnati (2000-02), the New York Mets (2002), Milwaukee (2003-06) and the Dodgers (2007), Clark has a career .277 batting average with 36 home runs and 203 RBIs in the major leagues.
Thatcher, 25, has had two stints with the Padres this season, pitching in five games and allowing three unearned runs in 5.0 innings with two walks and three strikeouts. He has pitched 4.1 scoreless innings in four games with Portland. Thatcher was acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers on July 25 along with right-handed pitcher Will Inman and left-hander Steve Garrison in exchange for right-hander Scott Linebrink.
Teague, an eighth-round selection of the Padres in the 2007 draft, is 1-0 with a 4.38 ERA in 11 games (7 starts) with the Emeralds this season. The 22-year-old made his Triple-A debut for the Beavers with a spot start Aug. 2 vs. Nashville, facing just one batter over the minimum and allowing one hit and one walk over five scoreless innings in a no-decision.
Menechino, 36, is batting .387 with 16 doubles, three home runs and 20 RBIs in 34 games with the Beavers in 2007.
Sansoe, 24, is batting .231 with eight doubles, two triples, a home run and 10 RBIs over 46 games in two stints with Portland this year.
