Tucson Sidewinders News Release
Salt Lake City, UT - Alex Romero and Jamie D'Antona homered and Greg Smith pitched six solid innings to lead the Sidewinders to an 8-2 win over the Salt Lake Bees on Thursday night.
Six different Sidewinders had RBI as Tucson scored single runs in the first, third, fifth and eighth innings to go with a four run fourth. Chris Carter got the Sidewinders started with a RBI triple to right-center in the first and Carlos Quentin's RBI double in the third made it 2-0.
Greg Smith allowed just five hits and a run in his six innings of work. He walked three and struck out two.
Tucson took a commanding lead with four in the fourth. Rich Thompson's RBI single plated Matt Erickson and Romero drilled his fourth home run of the year, a three run shot to right, to make it 6-0.
D'Antona's homer was a solo shot to left in the fifth. Alberto Callaspo added a RBI single in the eighth.
Dana Eveland made his first appearance with the Sidewinders since May 8th and tossed a scoreless inning in relief. Randy Choate worked the final two innings and allowed a run on three hits.
The Sidewinders and Bees wrap up their four game series on Friday night at Franklin Covey Field. Right-hander Enrique Gonzalez (7-8, 4.37) starts for Tucson against right-hander Steven Shell (6-3, 5.23) for Salt Lake. First pitch is at 6:05 Tucson time. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 6:00.
