Today's Game: Coming off a series split in Sacramento, the RedHawks continue their west coast road trip when they face the Fresno Grizzlies for the first time this season at 9:05 p.m. central time.
Last Game: The RedHawks put up nine runs and 11 hits, tying their highest scoring game of the month in a 9-3 win over the Sacramento River Cats. The RedHawks scored seven runs between the third and fifth innings, with Jason Jaramillo and Fernando Martinez each collecting two-run doubles. The team took full advantage of its scoring opportunities throughout the day, going 5-for-13 with runners in scoring position. Brad Peacock earned his first win in a RedHawks uniform, defeating the team he suited up for in 2012. Peacock (1-1) allowed one earned run (two runs total) and four hits over five innings.
Today's Probable Pitcher: Asher Wojciechowski has impressed since getting promoted to Triple-A...Through his first three starts with the RedHawks, Wojciechowski has allowed just two runs and 11 hits over 15.2 innings. Opponents are hitting .196 overall, .097 with runners on base (3x31), and 1-for-18 with runners in scoring position...In a no decision Tuesday against Salt Lake, Wojciechowksi allowed one run and three hits over 5.2 innings, throwing a season-high 91 pitches. He tied a career high with four walks and struck out three...Prior to joining the RedHawks, Wojciechowski was 2-1 with a 2.08 in six games for Corpus Christi...His 1.73 ERA between both levels is third-best among Astros minor leaguers.
Against the Grizzlies: 2013: 0-0 2012: 3-1 All-time: 49-28 In Fresno: 21-15
The RedHawks took three of four from the Grizzlies in their lone series in 2012. The final game had a memorable ending, with RedHawks pitcher Brian Bass providing a game-winning single in the bottom of the 12 inning to lead to a 3-2 win. The RedHawks pitching staff was great, posting a 2.31 ERA and allowing one home run...During their last trip to Fresno in 2011, the RedHawks split the four-game set. They scored exactly five runs in each game...Excluding Tucson, which has only been in the league since 2011, Fresno is one of three teams the RedHawks have a winning record against at both home and on the road (Omaha, Round Rock).
Big 12 Big Trip: The RedHawks are in the middle of their annual 12-day road trip while the Big 12 Baseball Championship takes place at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. With one leg complete, the RedHawks will next travel to Des Moines, where they will play five games in four days to make up for an earlier postponement against the Iowa Cubs. Through the first four games they are 2-2.
Running With the Pac: The RedHawks are in the midst of a stretch of 16-straight games against Pacific Conference foes, going 7-5 so far. Last season the RedHawks went 14-17 against the other side of the league, including a 6-10 mark on the road.
More Elmore: Jake Elmore rejoins the RedHawks today after completing a brief stint with the Astros. Elmore took the place of starting second baseman Jose Altuve while Altuve was on bereavement leave. In three games with Houston, Elmore went 4-for-11.
Everybody Hits: Yesterday marked the second time in the last four games all nine players in the starting lineup hit safely.
Linsanity: Che-Hsuan Lin notched his third multi-hit game over his last five contests with a 2-for-5 day yesterday. He's hitting .412 (7x17) during this stretch and has drawn three walks.
Dinger Details: The RedHawks have hit just one home run over their last seven games. They have 28 homers for the season, and only Tucson (27) and New Orleans (20) have gone deep fewer times in the league...On the other hand, the pitching staff has allowed exactly 28 homers as well, which is the least in the league.
At Your Own RISP: The RedHawks have held their opponents to a .161 average (15-for-93) with runners in scoring position over the last 10 games as well as a .168 mark (19-for-113) during the previous 13 contests.
One and Done: The RedHawks have not allowed an extra-base hit over the last two games, giving up 11 singles.
Starting Line: Over the first four games of the road trip, RedHawks starting pitchers have combined to go just 17.2 innings, with no start lasting longer than 5.0 IP. Three starts have failed to complete five innings. Only one of the last nine starts overall has lasted at least six full innings.
Bully for the Pen: Going back to Tuesday, the RedHawks relief corps has allowed four runs over the last 19.0 innings and scattered seven hits over that time. The bullpen has also surrendered just one hit over its last seven innings
Walk This Way: The RedHawks pitching staff set a new season high with nine walks yesterday. They have issued 50 walks over the last eight games, with at least six walks in a game six times. Their 169 walks this season is the fourth-most in the league.
Case of the Mondays: The RedHawks are 0-3 in Monday road games this season (2-4 overall on Mondays).
Opening Acts: One of the few blemishes on the RedHawks solid season thus far is their 4-7 record in series openers, including a 2-3 mark on the road.
