Wausau Woodchucks News Release

BATTLE CREEK, MICH.-July 11, 2011-The Wisconsin Woodchucks and the Battle Creek Bombers battled back and forth for ten innings, but the Bombers pulled off the victory on a walk-off home run by Bryce Redeker.

The Bombers got the scoring started in the second inning without getting a hit off of Woodchuck starter Aaron Gates. Gates hit Brett Wiley to lead off the inning, and a pick-off throw by Gates got by first baseman Robbie De La Cruz, allowing Wiley to move over to third. Wiley scored on the next pitch to Daniel Rockett, as Rockett grounded out to shortstop Kyle DeMerritt.

The ‘Chucks tied the game in the second as Mike Gerber scored on a two-out RBI-single by Cody Regis.

Rockett showed why he was selected to be an All-Star in the Northwoods League South Division as he led off the fourth with a long solo home run to left field off of Gates. They tacked on another later in the inning when Bryce Redeker scored on a sacrifice fly by Jordan Dean.

The ‘Chucks got the game to within a run in the seventh after Mike Gerber scored on a single by Carlos Escobar, Jr., that was misplayed by left fielder Dan Dispensa to make it a 3-2 game.

The score would remain static until the Woodchucks were batting with two outs in the inning. Regis stepped to the plate and clubbed his second home run in as many nights off the roof of a building over the right field fence at C.O. Brown Stadium to tie the game at three.

In the bottom of the ninth, Jordan Dean led off the inning with a double into the right-field corner. With one out, Anthony Drabnick intentionally walked Troy White to put runners on first and second for Ryne Otis. Otis struck out, but the third strike got away from Escobar, Jr., allowing the runners to advance to second and third with two down for Brett Wiley. Wiley then lined out to Danny Susdorf in left field for the third out, sending the game into extra innings.

After the Woodchucks were retired 1-2-3 in the 10th, Bryce Redeker came to the plate with one out against Anthony Drabnick and hit the first pitch out of the ballpark to left field to give the Bombers the 4-3 victory.

The Woodchucks fell to 2-3 on the second half, while the Bombers improved to 4-1. The Woodchucks will be back in Wausau tomorrow night to play a game at 6:35 against the Green Bay Bullfrogs at Athletic Park.
