Memphis tacked on three more runs with four consecutive hits to lead off the bottom of the fourth. After singles by outfielder Oscar Taveras and Peterson, Romak crushed a two-run triple off the center field wall. Shortstop Ryan Jackson concluded the scoring with an RBI single to right field.

Iowa scored their first two runs in the top of the fifth inning on to three consecutive base hits. Luis Flores brought home the first run with an RBI single, followed by Brent Lillibridge scoring on the subsequent wild pitch from Additon.

Four straight hits off reliever Sam Freeman to open the top of the eighth inning brought the Cubs within three runs at 8-5. Ty Wright's two-run double accounted for the first two runs. Two batters later with Wright on third, Lillibridge grounded into a double play for the final run of the game.

Barret Browning pitched two shutout innings in relief. Freeman was touched for three runs. Closer Victor Marte worked around two hits to pick up third consecutive save.
