Fresno Grizzlies News Release

Tacoma, Wash. - Fresno Grizzlies (9-7) right-handed starter Yusmeiro Petit (1-2) struck out 13 Tacoma Rainiers (8-8), but he suffered the tough luck loss in Tacoma's 4-2 win at Cheney Stadium. The Grizzlies finished their first road trip of the season with a 5-3 record.

Petit finished one strikeout shy of Tim Lincecum's Fresno record of 14 set in 2007. His performance on the night was also one shy of the career-high 14 strikeouts he had with Capital City of the South Atlantic League in 2004.

Tacoma scored all the runs it needed through the first three innings. Rainiers first baseman Alex Liddi (5) belted a three-run homer to right-center in the first inning while right fielder Eric Thames (3) chipped in with a solo clout to right in the third inning. All three of Thames homers came in this series.

Petit lasted six innings. He struck out every Rainier at least once, fanned his last seven hitters, and three times struck out the side in order.

Left-handed starter Danny Hultzen (3-1) earned the win for Tacoma. He went six innings, issued three hits, two runs (both earned), two walks, and, struck out five. It was his second win against Fresno this year.

Right-handed Logan Bawcom (1) pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the save despite the Grizzlies having the possible go-ahead run at the plate in the ninth.

Fresno returns home for a four-game homestand against Tucson on Saturday night at 7:05. Right-hander Keyvius Sampson (0-0) will pitch for Tucson against Fresno right-hander Chris Heston (2-0).
