MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Memphis Redbirds swept the visiting New Orleans Zephyrs in a doubleheader on Tuesday night at AutoZone Park. The Redbirds offense exploded for a 9-2 win in the opener and walked off in the twinbill finale, 5-4.

Memphis (34-32) improved to a PCL-best 7-1 in doubleheader action this season en route to their third consecutive twinbill sweep.

In the twinbill opener, the Redbirds clobbered the Zephyrs by a 9-2 score, scoring all nine runs in the first two frames.

Catcher Rob Johnson homered and drove in a season-high four runs. Chad Huffman also had two hits, including a homer, from the leadoff spot. Oscar Taveras provided a double and drove in a pair.

Boone Whiting (4-1) hurled a seven-inning, complete-game for the victory, allowing two runs on eight hits with six strikeouts. The complete-game was Whiting's first of his career.

The Redbirds batted around for a 4-0 advantage in the first as New Orleans starter Doug Mathis failed to retire the first three batters. With Chad Huffman and Kolten Wong on base, Oscar Taveras blasted a two-run double to right field. Three batters later after a Jermaine Curtis walk, Greg Garcia followed with an RBI double to center. The scoring concluded as Rob Johnson reached on a fielding error, which brought home Curtis.

Matt Downs was responsible for New Orleans' two runs with a two-out, two-run double over Taveras' head in the top of the second.

Memphis struck back with five more run in the next inning for a 9-2 final score, beginning with Huffman leading off the second inning with his sixth deep fly of the season. With two aboard, Garcia belted his second RBI double off the left field wall before Johnson crushed his seventh homer of the season, a three-run shot.

Mathis (2-5) was touched for a season-worst nine runs (eight earned) on nine hits and in four innings for the loss in the opener.

In the twinbill finale, Travis Tartamella hit a bases-loaded RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Redbirds a 5-4 walk-off win over New Orleans. The walk-off was the Redbirds' fifth last at-bat victory of the season.

The Redbirds had a 2-0 lead in the first after Huffman hit a weak, seeing-eye single with the bases loaded to score Justin Christian, who reached on a leadoff single. Romak would then score on a subsequent wild pitch from A.J. Battisto.

Two doubles and a base hit brought the Zephyrs with one at 2-1 in the next frame, highlighted by a RBI two-bagger by Ryan Goetz.

Romak went deep in the next inning with a runner on base for a 4-1 Redbirds advantage. The home run was the slugger's 12th of the season, which moved him into a tie for fourth place in the PCL him with teammate Brock Peterson.

New Orleans did damage against reliever Michael Blazek in the top of the sixth to knot the contest at 4-4. Blazek would give up three singles and a walk in the frame while allowing his only inherited runner to score.

Richard Castillo gave up two runs on five hits with four strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings for a no-decision. It was his fourth Triple-A start allowing two runs or less, but first outing receiving more than one run of support. Victor Marte improved to 2-0 with a scoreless seventh inning.
