
Fresno defeats Tucson

The Fresno Grizzlies compiled 16 hits and scored in every inning except two to defeat the Tucson Padres 10-1 Monday at Chukchansi Park.
Two batters into the bottom of the first, the Grizzlies took a 1-0 lead on Nick Noonan's RBI double. Fresno added two more runs in the opening inning with the help of RBI hits from Roger Kieschnick and Hector Sanchez. Noonan picked up his second RBI of the game in the bottom of the second with a single to right. Sanchez blasted a two-run home run onto the concourse past right field to extend the Grizzlies lead to 6-0 in the third inning.
Jaff Decker lined an RBI double down the right field line in the top of the fourth to bring home the Padres only run of the game. Francisco Peguero answered in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single to put Fresno ahead 7-1. After the Grizzlies scored one run in the sixth, Gary Brown hit a solo home run in a two-run inning for Fresno.
Steve Edlefsen (1-0) earned his first win in a relief appearance for starter Austin Fleet. Edlefsen and Sandy Rosario held the Padres hitless in the final five innings of the game. Brandon Kloess (2-1) lost his first game for Tucson after surrendering six earned runs on ten hits in four innings. Infielder Jesus Merchan recorded his third scoreless relief appearance of the season after picking up the final out of the eighth inning Monday.
