Memphis Redbirds News Release
Memphis, Tenn. - Memphis rallied for four runs in their last three at-bats to down Round Rock 4-3 Thursday night at AutoZone Park.
With the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning David Freese delivered the big hit with a flair single into right field. Colby Rasmus and Chris Duncan raced home to put the Redbirds on top. Rasmus and Duncan had reached base thanks to a pair of fielding errors by the Express. Rasmus put Memphis on the board in the sixth inning with his team-leading ninth home run of the year and extended his hit streak to 11 games with the solo shot. Jarrett Hoffpauir tied the game in the seventh with his second home run of the season.
Round Rock scored first with a run scoring single from J.R. House in the third inning before Reggie Abercrombie added to the lead with a solo shot in the fourth. In a tie game in the eighth inning the Express grabbed the lead again with back-to-back doubles from David Newhan and Mark Saccomanno.
Jason Motte picked up the win in relief allowing one run on two hits in one inning. Ron Flores nailed down his second save with a perfect ninth inning. Memphis starter Anthony Reyes gave up two runs on six hits with five strikeouts over five innings. Former St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Ray King took the loss after surrendering two unearned runs without recording an out in the eighth.
