Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

Colorado Springs used a late rally Thursday night to squeak past Salt Lake, 5-4 in front of 1,962 fans at Security Service Field.

Brad Hawpe led off the eighth inning with a single to left field, his first hit since joining the Sky Sox Monday night. Christian Colonel followed with a single to right field to set the table for Joe Koshansky.

Koshansky, the PCL leader in RBI added to his total with a two-run double off the left field wall before being gunned down at third base trying to stretch the hit into a triple. Koshansky has hit safely in 11 of the last 13 games and is hitting .412 (21-for-51) during that stretch with six home runs, eight doubles and 22 RBI.

The Bees got on the board early when Matt Brown took Jason Hirsh yard with two outs in the first inning. Hirsh, making his second start on a rehab stint for the Rockies, loaded the bases with two outs in the first inning, but struck out Adam Pavkovich to escape the jam.

Salt Lake would add to its lead in the third inning with the help of a two-run home run from Dee Brown.

But the Sky Sox rallied back, scoring an unearned run in the bottom of the third inning before adding two more runs in fourth.

Hirsh threw 77 pitches in his 4.1 innings for the Sky Sox. He struck out six and walked just two, but left with runners on first and third. Brown's sacrifice fly off Chris George gave the Bees a 4-3 lead.

Shane Loux pitched six effective innings for the Bees, allowing two earned runs on five hits. He struck out six and walked just one.

Matt Daley (1-1) picked up his first win by recording the final two outs in the eighth inning. After loading the bases with an intentional walk to Bobby Wilson, Daley coaxed Pavkovich to ground into an inning-ending double play.

Darren O'Day (1-1) took the loss after allowing two runs in his two innings of work.

Hawpe finished the game 1-for-4 with a single and a run score. He played all nine innings.

Matt Holliday will join the Sky Sox for Friday's game. The runner-up in last year's NL MVP voting was scheduled to start Thursday's game, but was scratched due to poor weather.

The Sky Sox and the Bees continue their four-game set Friday with a 7:05 start time. Josh Towers (4-4, 6.62) gets the call for the Sox and will go opposite Giancarlo Alvarado (3-1, 3.38).
