Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
Omaha catcher Cam Gallagher clubbed a three-run home run and shortstop Nicky Lopez tallied three hits, however longballs from Memphis first baseman Luke Voit and right fielder Adolis Garcia powered the Redbirds to a 6-3 win over the Storm Chasers on Thursday evening at Werner Park.
Memphis surged ahead with a three-run second highlighted by run-scoring singles by SS Edmundo Sosa and center fielder Oscar Mercado . Garcia followed with his two-run blast one frame later to extend the advantage to 5-0 prior to Voit capping the Redbirds offense via his solo shot in the fifth. Gallagher would go deep in the sixth with a three-run homer, his fourth of 2018 with Omaha, however the Storm Chasers were unable to get any closer.
Lopez (3-4, 3B) led all Omaha batters with his three knocks, with Gallagher (2-4, R, HR, 3 RBI) and 1B Ryan O'Hearn (2-4, R) each recording multi-hit efforts as well. Voit's (3-5, R, HR, RBI) three hits paced the Memphis offensive, joined by four other Redbirds batters in posting two or more knocks. Lopez in his six games at Werner Park this year has compiled a .458 (11-24) with five runs, one double, one triple, two homers and four RBI.
Memphis starter Austin Gomber (5.1 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB, 3 K) earned his sixth win, with relievers Ryan Weber (2.2 IP, H, 5 K) and Matt Bowman (1.0 IP, H, 3 K) providing 3.2 scoreless innings of support. Weber received his seventh hold and Bowman notched his first save. Omaha starter Zach Lovvorn (5.0 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 6 ER, BB, 4 K) suffered the defeat, though the bullpen trio of Eric Stout (1.0 IP, 2 H), Jake Newberry (2.0 IP, 3 H, 2 K) and Sam Selman (1.0 IP, H, K) silenced Memphis with four shutout frames.
The Storm Chasers and Redbirds meet for the second game of their four-game series at Werner Park on Friday, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CT. Omaha is expected to give the ball to LHP Jake Kalish (3-3, 2.90), while Memphis is slated to send RHP Kevin Herget (5-6, 3.75) to the hill.
