ANOTHER TOP ST. LOUIS PROSPECT JOINS THE TEAM IN MEMPHIS

Rhett Parrott makes Triple-A debut in Omaha

Redbirds fans have seen several of the St. Louis Cardinals' top prospects wear Memphis uniforms this season - Dan Haren, Jimmy Journell, Scotty Layfield, John Gall, Josh Pearce and Dee Haynes were all rated in Baseball America's pre-season list of Top 25 prospects within the Cardinals' farm system. Monday, Rhett Parrott, the #7 prospect in the organization according to Baseball America, joined the Redbirds and made his Triple-A debut in Omaha vs. the Royals.

A right-handed starting pitcher, Parrott was saddled with the loss despite allowing just one run on three hits over five innings in Memphis' 1-0 defeat.

In 21 starts at Double-A Tennessee, the 23-year-old from Dalton, Ga., went 8-9 with a 3.27 ERA and was among Southern League leaders with 112 strikeouts (vs. 40 walks) and 124.0 IP when promoted to Triple-A. After a shaky start in April and May, Parrott went 6-3 with a 1.49 ERA for the Smokies after June 7.

The Cardinals' ninth-round pick in the 2001 draft out of Georgia Tech, Parrott entered the 2003 season with a career record of 13-9 and a 3.20 ERA in 39 career starts with Class-A teams New Jersey and Potomac and Double-A New Haven.
