July 29, 2003 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Portland Beavers News Release

FRESNO, Calif. - Tagg Bozied went 4-for-6, including two doubles, and Clay Condrey threw seven strong innings, as the Portland Beavers defeated the Fresno Grizzlies 14-5 on Monday night.

Condrey, who at one point retired 12-staight, picked up his third win for the Beavers. He allowed one run on six hits and fanned five.

With the win, the Beavers took three-of-four from Fresno and moved to within a game of first-place Edmonton in the Pacific Coast League's North Division. Portland (55-55), which won its third-straight game, also reached the .500 mark for the first time since July 13 when it was 49-49.

Xavier Nady went 3-for-5 and Khalil Greene had three hits as part of Portland's 17-hit attack. Each Beavers starter except Jason Bay had at least one hit.

Jimmy Anderson (1-3) took the loss for the Grizzlies, allowing 11 hits and seven earned runs in 6.1 innings. He walked three and struck out two.

Anderson was sharp early, holding the Beavers scoreless through the first three frames. The left-hander was given an early 1-0 lead when Brian Dallimore led off the first inning with a home run. Then, in the second, Fresno picked up another run when Dallimore scored from second on an error by Bozied.

Portland tied it at 2-2 in the fourth on Rich Gomez's double to right field. The next inning, Portland scored two more runs when Dallimore misplayed a ground ball off the bat of Bay.

The Beavers put the game out of reach with a five-run seventh-inning rally. Gomez had an RBI single, Ben Risinger drew a bases-loaded walk and Condrey hit a three-RBI double to make it 9-2.

Portland scored another five runs in the eighth inning, highlighted by a three-run homer by Risinger, his sixth of the year. Nady hit a run-scoring single and Donaldo Mendez added an RBI double.

The Grizzlies (43-66) made it 14-5 in the ninth when Dallimore hit a run-scoring single.

Dallimore went 3-for-4 and Clay Bellinger had two hits for the Grizzlies.

The Beavers return to PGE Park Tuesday to start an eight-game homestand. First pitch is 7:05 p.m.

NOTES: The Beavers went 6-2 on their road trip, which matches their most successful eight-game since the team returned to the PCL ... Portland has lost only two road series in 2003 ... Monday marked Bozied's first four-hit game this season ... Bay walked three times, but didn't have a hit, ending his seven-game hitting streak.
