Rochester Red Wings News Release

TONIGHTfS GAME: The surging Red Wings, fresh off a 4-3 victory on Tuesday and a second consecutive series win, open a two-game home series against the Scranton/WB RailRiders (Yankees) on Wednesday night (7:05 p.m.) at Frontier Field... Rochester has won six of their last seven games and 12 of 17 overall to move within one game of the .500 mark. The Wings are currently just 3.0 games back of Norfolk, who has lost six straight, in the Wild Card and 7.5 games behind Pawtucket in the North... Meanwhile, the RailRiders, after jumping out to a 17-11 record, have gone just 14-28 since May 6 and currently sit in 5th place in the IL North -- 11.0 GB of the Paw Sox... After this short, two-game set, the Wings will hit the road for a 10-game trip beginning in Louisville on Friday night. The trip also includes four games in Indianapolis and two games in Syracuse.

¨QUEST FOR .500: Despite a 2-11 start, their worst since at least 1940, a win tonight would put the Wings back at .500 for the first time since ending the e12 season at 72-72. A win would also extend ROCfs home winning streak to a season-long 5 games.

WITH LAST NIGHTfS WIN, THE WINGS...:

¨Won their 5th series of the season and second consecutive series for the first time all year.

¨Won a series against Scranton/WB for the first time since sweeping a two-game set July 30-31, 2011 -- a span of 9 series.

¨Won a series at PNC Field for the first time since August 19-21, 2008... Were 3-21 @ SWB from 2009-2011.

HENDRIKS BACK TO THE HILL: RHP Liam Hendriks returns to the mound for the Red Wings on Wednesday for the first time since May 9. The 24-year-old has missed the last 37 games after going on the disabled list May 12 with right elbow inflammation. Prior to hitting the DL, Hendriks was 1-3 with a 5.53 ERA (17 ER/27.2 IP). The right-hander started his season in the Twins rotation but after going 0-1 with a 4.66 ERA in two starts he was optioned to Rochester on April 13 when Scott Diamond came off of the disabled list. Prior to this season, Hendriks dominated the IL with a 13-7 record and 2.95 ERA in 25 career starts.

¨In his only start against SWB this season, Hendriks yielded 5 R (4 ER) on 9 hits in 6.0 ip... It was just the 2nd game of his career that he didnft strike out a single batter in an outing.

HERRMANN HEATING UP: Red Wings C/OF Chris Herrmann is hitting .389 (7-for-18) with two doubles, a triple, four runs and four RBI in 5 games with Rochester since being optioned down when Trevor Plouffe was activated off the disabled list on Saturday... He has a season-high 9-game hitting streak going at Triple-A over which hefs hitting .387 (12-for-31) with 3 XBH, 6 runs and 4 RBI. With a hit tonight he will tie his career-long 10-game hitting streak (2x; last; 7/31-8/11/12 with New Britain) and become just the second Wings player this year to push a hit streak into double-figures (Colabello, 16-gamer)... Herrmann went 6-for-13 with a homer and four RBI in seven games with the Twins -- his second-career Major League stint.

¨In the Clutch: With the Wings, Herrmann is hitting .348 (24-69) from the 6th inning on... Just .188 (19-101) prior to 6th.

ANTOAN ON BASE...AGAIN: Red Wings leadoff man Antoan Richardson reached base safely in 10 of his 14 trips to the plate during the three-game series in Scranton/WB going 5-for-9 with a triple, two doubles, 5 walks, 4 runs and 4 RBI. His OBP with the Wings rose to .466 and his overall OBP between New Britain and Rochester now sits at .461 -- 5th best in all of baseball. Additionally, his five base on balls in the series give him 58 for the year in 68 games between Double-A and Triple-A -- four more than any other player in the game... If Richardson reaches base tonight, he will have his second 25-game on-base streak this season as he also reached base in 25 straight games between New Britain and Rochester from April 16-May 14... His current 24-game streak is the third longest current streak going in the IL (Colabello, 26 & Ishikawa, 32)... The Wings are 20-15 with Richardson in the leadoff spot and 16-22 when someone other than Richardson is.

¨In June, Richardson is batting .338 with a .500 OBP and 11 RBI in 18 games...

YOUNG GUNS IN THE BULLPEN: The Wings bullpen has been much improved of late posting a 3.55 ERA (25 ER/63.1 IP) while converting 9 of 10 save chances over the last 23 games over which the team has gone 16-7... Prior to this nice stretch the bullpenfs ERA was 6.16 on the season. A large reason for the turnaround in the relief corps has been the additions on Aaron Thompson, Michael Tonkin and Blake Martin from Double-A New Britain. The trio has combined to post a 1.13 ERA (4 ER/32.0 IP) while converting 6 of 7 save chances in 22 appearances... Tonkin earned his 3rd Triple-A save on Tuesday and has yet to allow an earned run over his first eight Triple-A appearances with the Wings. The 6-7, 200-pound right-hander has struck out 8 and walked none in his first 9.0 innings while holding lefties hitless against him (0-for-12)... Meanwhile, Martin has allowed just one hit (1-for-21) over his first 7.0 scoreless innings in four appearances with Rochester.

VASQUEZ TRANSFERRED: To make room for Hendriks on the roster, RHP Virgil Vasquez was transferred to Double-A. Vasquez was 2-6 with a 5.28 ERA (34 ER/58.0 IP) in 15 games (10 starts) with the Wings. He allowed 11 home runs in 58.0 innings.
