RED WINGS GAME NOTES ¨C Friday, July 18 (7:05 p.m.)

Rochester Red Wings (54-45) @ Norfolk Tides (41-58) ¨C Harbor Park, Norfolk, VA

RHP Alex Meyer (5-4, 3,43) vs. RHP Josh Stinson (0-4, 7.54)

TONIGHT'S GAME: The Red Wings 8-game road trip continues Friday night (7:05 p.m.) with Game Two of a 4-game series against the Norfolk Tides at Harbor Park in Norfolk, VA. The Wings began the trip with a 7-4 setback on Thursday night and have now lost 6 of their last 8 games to fall 5.0 GB of Syracuse in the IL North. However, Rochester still clings to a 1.5-game lead in the Wild Card standings over Columbus. The Tides, meanwhile, have won 4 straight and 6 of their last 7 games after a 4-9 stretch from June 25-July 7.

#100: The Wings will play their 100th game of the season tonight and no matter what the outcome, Rochester will have their best record after 100 games since 2006 (57-43). This is the 3rd straight year (Gene Glynn era) that Rochester has been at least .500 at the 100 game mark (2012: 50-50; 2013: 51-49). The previous four years (2008-11), the Wings were a combined 62 games under .500 after 100 games.

¡úAfter tonight, the Wings have just 44 regular season games remaining (24 road games & 20 home games).

¡úOf the 44 games remaining following tonight, 24 will be against team's who currently lead their division (SYR, IND, DUR)

MEYER'S RESURGENCE: Wings RHP Alex Meyer will make his 19th start of the season tonight for Rochester. In his final start before the All-Star Break (7/8 vs BUF), Meyer went 6.0 innings allowing 2 runs on 4 hits and 4 walks with 10 strikeouts -- his 3rd double-digit punch out performance of the season and the 5th of his career. Meyer has put together back-to-back-to-back "quality starts" where he's allowed a combined 4 runs on 10 hits in 18.0 IP (2.00 ERA). This is just the 2nd time in his career he has strung together 3 straight "quality starts" -- the other coming July 14-25, 2012 between Hagerstown and Potomac. In his previous 3 starts (6/13-6/23) for the Wings, Meyer had allowed 7 runs on 14 hits in only 8 2/3 innings.

GET THIS GUY SOME RUNS: Meyer has allowed 2 or fewer ER in 12 of 18 starts this season, however, the Wings are just 9-9 in his 18 starts as he's received the least amount of support (3.17 R/G; 57 R in 18 G) among all Red Wings starters. Since scoring 12 runs behind him on May 4 vs. LOU, the offense has scored a total of 27 runs in his last 12 starts (2.25 R/G). Over his last 6 starts, he received a total of just 9 runs.

¡úAll other starters with at least 14 GS for Rochester this season have received no less than 4.5 R/G of support.

BERESFORD'S BLAST: Thursday night, James Beresford hit just the 3rd home run of his professional career but his 2nd this season -- a solo shot of NOR's Miguel Gonzalez in the 1st inning. After going 1,670 PA between homers #1 and #2, he needed just 281 PA between HR's #2 and #3. He now owns 3 career homers in 3,166 PA over his 8 years in pro ball. His other home run this season came on May 5 @ COL -- a grand slam off Tyler Cloyd.

¡úBeresford has a hit in 11 of his last 12 games, batting .300 (15-for-50) with 3 2B, HR & 4 RBI.

HITTIN' THE ROAD: The Wings are in the midst of a stretch in which they play 18 of 24 games away from Frontier Field. The Wings are just 20-27 on the road -- the 3rd fewest road wins of any IL team this season and T-4th fewest in all of Triple-A. However, the Wings are 14-13 over their last 27 road games since going 0-8 on their Ohio trip, May 5-12. The Wings are averaging over a run less per game away from Frontier Field (5.08 R/G at HOME; 3.79 R/G on the ROAD) while the pitching staff's ERA is nearly a run higher on the road (2.92 HOME ERA; 3.88 ROAD ERA).

¡úThe Wings are hitting over 40 points worse on the road as every current Red Wings position player has a lower road batting average compared to their home mark.

¡úMeanwhile, the Wings are the best home team in the IL, with 4 more wins at home than any other team in the IL.

ROLLIN' THE TIDES: The Wings have played their best baseball over the last 3 seasons against the Norfolk Tides going 15-6 against Norfolk since the beginning of the 2012 season. Over that span, the Wings have won 4 of their last 5 series over the Tides -- including 3 straight at Frontier Field. The only series between the two teams that hasn't been won by the Wings in the last 3 years came last year in Norfolk when the clubs split a four-game set. In fact, since Harbor Park opened in 1993, the Wings have won just 5 series in Norfolk.

¡úOver the last 13 games between the two teams, ROC has outscored the Tides 82-50, scoring 6.3 R/G while hitting .278 (135-485). The Wings staff has limited the Tides offense to just a .217 (100-460) average over that span.

MORE ABOUT LAST NIGHT...:

¡úThe Wings walked a season-high 11 batters for the first time since walking a 2013 season-high 11 on 8/26 vs. SYR.

¡úWings starter Yohan Pino walked a career-high 7 batters in 5.0+ innings...His previous high was 6 back in 2008 w/ NBR.

¡úReliever Lester Oliveros (0.2 IP, R/ER) has now allowed 6 R (5 ER) over his last 4 outings (10.38 ERA; 4.1 IP, 8 H, 4 BB, 6 SO) after allowing just 6 R (3 ER) over his first 29 G of the year (0.79 ERA; 34.0 IP).

¡úDeibinson Romero hit is tied for IL-leading 27th double of the season (GWN's Phil Gosselin).
