TOLEDO, Oh. - The Louisville Bats struggled to find offensive power Friday night at Fifth Third Field, losing in shutout fashion and earning only three hits in the game.

The Mud Hens took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when James McCann singled to center field, scoring Hernan Perez. They extended the lead in the following inning when Ezequiel Carrera hit a sacrifice fly to Jason Bourgeois, scoring teammate Daniel Fields and giving them the 2-0 nod.

Five scoreless innings later in the seventh, the Mud Hens broke the game open by scoring three more runs to give them the 5-0 lead. It was Carrera again who got things rolling when he singled to left field, scoring Brandon Douglas. Carrera went 3-for-4 on the night with three RBI. Toledo added another run in the bottom of the eighth to set the score at 6-0.

Toledo left-hander Duane Below earned the win and pitched six shutout innings while allowing only two hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

Despite Louisville winning six of the last seven games David Holmberg had started, the Florida native suffered his fifth loss on the year. The right-hander pitched six and one-third innings, surrendering five runs on seven hits with three walks and four strikeouts.

Ruben Gotay, Felix Perez, and Rey Navarro each accounted for one of the three hits of the game. Seven Louisville batters were struck out and nine were left stranded on base.

The Bats will look to bounce back tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. in the first game of a double header when they send Brett Marshall (0-5, 10.64) to the mound to face a Toledo pitcher that has yet to be determined at Fifth Third Field.
