Syracuse Mets News Release

Up, Up and Away: Today will mark the 44th straight day the Chiefs end in first place in the I.L. North. Syracuse hasn't ended a day in second since June 4th, after an 11-2 loss to Indianapolis. The Chiefs have gone 25-13 since that date. Take Two: The Chiefs continue their stretch of 48 games in the regular season's final 47 days today with game two.

Syracuse currently possesses the I.L.'s best record by 4.5 games over Durham and leads Rochester by five in the North. 35 of Syracuse's final 47 games will come against North Division teams, with eight against the South and four against the West.

Rafi Bomb: RHP Rafael Martin tossed two scoreless innings last time out on Saturday. Since allowing six earned runs in his first Double-A appearance of the year, Martin's thrown 32.1 innings in a row without allowing an ER between Har- risburg and Syracuse - a streak spanning 18 total games. Hood Ornament: Destin Hood picked up three hits yester- day, extending his hit streak to 10 and on-base streak to 11.

Over the course of the streak, Hood's picked up nine extra- base hits - seven doubles and two homers. He's either scored or driven in a run in nine of his last 10 starts.

Sizzling Souza: OF Steven Souza, Jr., who had the night off yesterday, starts the "second half" with I.L. leads in four dif- ferent categories - AVG, OBP, SLG and RBIs. He's also third in SBs, T-3rd in XBHs, 2nd in total bases and 5th in best HR/ AB ratio. In Wednesday's Triple-A All-Star game, Souza was 1 for 4 with an RBI double and two walks.

Lucky 13: The Chiefs matched a season high for margin of victory with yesterday's 13-0 win, matching a 16-3 win at Durham on June 21st. That's the biggest shutout win for Syracuse since a 16-0 blanking of Durham on April 6, 2007.

The Chiefs outhit the IronPigs 18-5 yesterday and held Lehigh Valley to just five singles.

Four-tunate: Zach Walters and Tyler Moore each picked up four hits yesterday, the Chiefs' eighth and ninth four-hit games of the season. That's the second time two Chiefs have had four-hit games on one date this year, after Will Rhymes and Brock Peterson each collected four hits on June 21st in the Chiefs' 16-3 win over Durham.
