Red Sox Recall Jose De La Torre, Mortensen to DL

The Boston Red Sox today placed right-hander Clayton Mortensen on the 15-day disabled list with a right groin strain. To fill his spot on the 25-man roster, right-hander Jose De La Torre was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket.

Executive Vice President/General Manager Ben Cherington made the announcement.

Mortensen, 28, threw a scoreless ninth inning with one strikeout to keep the score tied at six in last night's 14-inning, 10-8 win over the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field. In 24 games for Boston this season, Mortensen has gone 1-2 with a 5.34 ERA (18 ER/30.1 IP), 16 walks, and 21 strikeouts. He has pitched more than one inning in 12 of his 24 games for the Red Sox this year.

De La Torre, 27, will join the Red Sox for his second career major league stint this year. He was recalled by Boston on May 9, and appeared in two games, going 0-0 with a 9.00 ERA (2 ER/2.0 IP) with one walk, and two strikeouts. In his 16 games for Pawtucket this season, De La Torre posted a 2-1 record with a 2.17 ERA (7 ER/29.0 IP), 17 walks, and 32 strikeouts.
