Red Hot 'Wolves Win Fourth Straight

The SeaWolves jumped out to an early lead on Thursday night and went on to win their fourth straight, taking down the Altoona Curve 12-6 at People's Natural Gas Field.

Erie jumped ahead in the second against Curve starter Joan Montero. Corey Jones and Dean Green connected on a back-to-back singles to start the inning. Jones moved to third on a Francisco Martinez fly out to right, putting runners on the corners. Craig Albernez laid down a squeeze bunt, scoring Jones for a 1-0 lead. With two outs, Marcus Lemon walked to load the bases for Daniel Fields. Fields drew a walk, plating Green for a 2-0 lead. Steven Moya then lined a single to right, scoring two more for a 4-0 lead. The RBIs for Moya were 73 and 74 on the year.

Erie added a run in the third. Jones led off with a walk and moved to third on a Green single. Jones scored on a Martinez fielder's choice for a 5-0 lead.

In the fourth, Fields singled, stole second and moved to third on an error by the shortstop on a liner off the bat of Moya. Ramon Cabrera followed and blasted a three-run home run to left for an 8-0 lead.

In the fourth, Altoona cut into the lead against Erie starter Tommy Collier. Stetson Allie doubled and scored on a one-out fielder's choice making it 8-1. In the fifth, Drew Maggi doubled and scored on an Allie single, cutting the Erie lead down to six at 8-2.

Altoona made it a four-run game in the sixth against reliever Will Startup. Carlos Paulino led off with a single and Gift Ngoepe belted a two-run home run to left making it 8-4.

In the top of the seventh, Erie extended the lead on Emmanuel de Leon. Albernaz led off and was hit by a pitch. Johnson followed with a single putting runners on the corners for Lemon. Lemon singled home Albernaz making it 9-4. Fields followed with a double scoring Johnson and putting Lemon on third. Lemon scored on a Cabrera sacrifice fly for an 11-4 lead.

Altoona again cut into the lead in the seventh. Allie and Dan Gamache singled while Keon Broxton reached on a walk, loading the bases. Paulino drew a bases loaded walk and Andy Vasquez lifted a sacrifice fly to center, plating a second run to make it 11-6. The Curve would get no closer.

Erie reliever Kenny Faulk retired seven of the final eight hitters and finished with four strikeouts, quieting any Curve threat.

Erie added one run in the ninth as Green singled home Cabrera with his fourth hit of the night for a 12-6 lead.

Collier (4-7) won his second straight and won back-to-back games for the first time this season. He allowed two run on five hits with four walks and two strikeouts in five innings.
