
Fightins grab series opener over Rock Cats

Reading Fightin Phils News Release
The Reading Fightin Phils (37-53) earned their first win of the season against the New Britain Rock Cats (45-46) as they won 5-3 on Friday night. Severino Gonzalez (6-9) earned his sixth win of the season as he allowed three runs off six hits with one walk issued and three strikeouts.
New Britain scored first as Reynaldo Rodriguez hit a RBI double to score Aaron Hicks and give the Rock Cats a 1-0 lead off Severino Gonzalez. Hicks hit a double with one out in the inning. New Britain added to their lead in the bottom of the 3rd inning off Gonzalez as Lance Ray hit a RBI single to score Eddie Rosario who doubled with one out in the inning.
The Fightin Phils tied the game at 2-2 off Pat Dean (6-5) in the top of the 4th inning as Kelly Dugan scored on an error by Brad Boyer and Aaron Altherr scoring on a RBI groundout by Peter Lavin. Kelly Dugan broke the 2-2 tie in the top of the 5th inning as he hit a sacrifice fly off Dean to score Carlos Alonso and give Reading a 3-2 lead.
Eddie Rosario tied the game at 3-3 off Gonzalez in the bottom of the 5th inning as he hit a solo home run with one out. The Fightin Phils broke the 3-3 tie in the top of the 6th inning as Carlos Alonso hit a two-out RBI single to score Raywilly Gomez and give Reading a 4-3 lead.
Reading earned an insurance run in the top of the 9th inning as Kelly Dugan hit a RBI single off reliever Jim Fuller to give take a 5-3 lead. Carlos Alonso also singled in the inning which allowed him to have four hits on the night.
Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez earned his first save as he pitched a scoreless bottom of the 9th inning. He gave up one hit and one walk with two strikeouts.
The Fightin Phils and New Britain Rock Cats meet tomorrow night at New Britain Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
