Maine Celtics News Release

PORTLAND, ME - The Maine Red Claws, presented by Quirk Chevrolet, will continue their relationship with the Long Creek Youth Development Facility with a Thanksgiving visit to the facility. The Red Claws players and members of the team's staff will join the Long Creek's basketball team, the AR Gould School Bears, at a reception before enjoying a traditional Thanksgiving meal with the residents.

The Red Claws have had a relationship with Long Creek since the team's inaugural season of 2009-10 when the Red Claws turned out in support of the AR Gould School Bears basketball team's bid for in the Maine High School Class D playoffs. Red Claws players have made multiple visits to Long Creek over the two season history of the Red Claws. This upcoming season, the Red Claws will provide six tickets, made possible by an anonymous donation to the Maine Red Claws Foundation, to Long Creek for use by staff and residents who have earned the privilege to leave the facility.

"As professional athletes, our players can certainly relate to being separated from their families during the holidays," said Red Claws President and General Manager, who approached Long Creek about the holiday visit. "We have seen through past visits the impact that our players can have on these kids - and the impact these kids can have on the players."

Long Creek Youth Development Center is located in South Portland and houses both male and female juvenile offenders. Long Creek continues to redefine many of its program functions to enable a total multi-disciplined team approach in working with those committed and held within the facility. Long Creek Youth Development Center functions as a total educational rehabilitative resource within the state-wide correctional setting. In this area, the Center provides care, custody and security for its residents, holds for court evaluations/diagnostic services, education, physical education and recreation through the A.R. Gould School, volunteer services, social services, worship services, as well as medical services to its juvenile offender population. While Long Creek encourages support from community businesses, organizations and individuals through mentoring, tutoring and special programming, it is of equal importance to encourage the residents of Long Creek to connect with surrounding communities through volunteer opportunities.
