BAKERSFIELD, November 21, 2011 - The Bakersfield Jam defeated Soles de Mexicali, a professional team from Mexico, 102-63 in a preseason home game Monday night. Brian Butch and Osiris Eldridge led all scorers with 22 points each.
The Jam took control of the game early on, behind Butch's 18 point effort, to lead the Soles 58-26 at the half. The Soles made a run to begin the second half, but Eldridge's 10 point third quarter paced the Jam en route to victory. Bakersfield displayed an impressive defensive effort this evening, liming the Soles to 31% shooting from the field and outrebounding them 51-33. The Jam had an equally notable offensive showing, shooting 47.1% from the field and leading by as many as 42 points on the night.
In his return, Butch finished the game with a double-double (22 points and 13 rebounds.) Juan Pattillo contributed 12 points and grabbed 6 rebounds off the bench. Renaldo Major had 11 points and 6 rebounds. Guard Justin Graham added 10 points and dished out team-high 5 assists.
David Cubillan led Soles de Mexicali in scoring with 13 points, adding 5 assists. Center Greg Smith had a near double-double, finishing with 11 points and 9 rebounds tonight.
Bakersfield opens regular season at home this Friday, November 25 against the Reno Bighorns.
