Red Claws Ride Hunter, Goodwin to Victory

Portland, ME - The Maine Red Claws, presented by Unum, got a strong 4th quarter team performance and carried strong play from both R.J. Hunter and Archie Goodwin to lift the Red Claws past the Windy City Bulls, 121-113.

Maine (16-23) was led by Hunter with 24 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists. Goodwin led the bench with 27 points, including 18 points in the 4th quarter alone. Andrew White added 18 points, while P.J. Dozier added 16 points and 9 assists. Vitto Brown scored 14 points and grabbed 8 rebounds.

Windy City (21-19) was led by Brandon Sampson with 32 points. Former Red Claw Walt Lemon, Jr. finished with 26 and 8 assists, while JaKarr Sampson added 23 in the loss.

Hunter opened the scoring with a three to put Maine up 3. The Claws made their first 3 three-pointers, with White and Bibbs dropping in treys. Dozier got in on the party from downtown, and Hunter buried another deep trey to make it 23-11 Maine. The Red Claws made 9 of their first 10 shots, including their first 5 threes. JaKarr Sampson started the game strong for Windy City, and former Red Claw Walt Lemon, Jr. dunked home a bucket to cut it to 3. Hunter continued to fill it up, making 4 threes in the quarter. Lemon finished with 12 in the quarter, but Maine led, 40-34 after 1.

Windy City opened the 2nd scoring 7 straight points to take the lead. Brown gave Maine the lead back with his first triple of the game. Both JaKarr and Brandon Sampson would lead the charge for Windy City in the 2nd period, extending the Bulls lead to 7. Lemon's bucket at the end of the half made it 67-57 Windy City at the break. Maine shot 48.9% (22-45) from the field in the half, including 47.8% (11-23) from downtown. Windy City, meanwhile, shot 59.1% (26-44) from the floor.

In the 3rd, White knocked in a three, and John Bohannon's three-point play cut the deficit to 3. Lemon took over the game to extend the lead back to 10 for the Bulls. Lemon's fast break lay-up put Windy City up 88-76. Brown's three got it back to 6, and free throws made it 90-86 after 3 quarters of play.

In the 4th, Brown buried a three to give Maine the lead back at 93-92. Another Brown trey put the Claws up 2. Goodwin scored a pair of buckets to maintain a 4 point lead. Dozier's bucket extended the lead to 106-101. Goodwin buried a huge three with 2:00 to go to put Maine up 6. Hunter followed that up with a dagger from deep to make it 116-107. The Red Claws put it away from there.

Maine shot 51.1% (46-90) from the floor, 46.2% (18-39) from three-point range, and 11-17 from the free throw line. Windy City shot 50% (43-86) from the field, 23.3% (7-30) from beyond the arc, and 20-24 from the charity stripe.
