
Red Claws' Rally Falls Short

Mississauga, Ontario - The Maine Red Claws, presented by Unum, erased a 20-point deficit but were unable to pull off the comeback Saturday, falling at Raptors 905, 116-109.
Maine (25-10) snaps its three-game winning streak with the loss. The Red Claws lost despite a big game from Yante Maten, who finished with 30 points and 12 rebounds. Tremont Waters added 20 points and 6 assists, while Trey Davis led the bench with 17 points. Tacko Fall recorded his 14th double-double of the season with 16 points and 15 boards. Jaysean Paige added 15 points in a starting role.
Raptors 905 (17-20) was led by Oshae Brissett with 29 points and 10 rebounds, Henry Ellenson with 28 points, and Devin Robinson with 24 points and 14 boards.
1st quarter:
The game started off as you would expect with a tip-off win from Tacko Fall. After a few misses by the Red Claws they got the ball down low for a slam dunk and a layup to Tacko to take a 4-3 Red Claws lead. After a few consecutive stops Yante Maten drained a 1 for 2 free throw and a put-back dunk to take a 8-3 Red Claws lead. Devin Robinson answered and scored the first 7 points for the Raptors to make it an 8-7 Red Claws lead. The Raptors picked up the defensive intensity forcing consecutive turnovers and converted to make it a 12-10 Raptors lead at the first timeout with 6:45 left in the 1st. The long range sharpshooting of the Raptors allowed them to pull ahead to a 21-13 lead off of 3 made 3 pointers. Out of the timeout Tremont Waters found Yante Maten for a ferocious slam to make it a 21-15 Raptors lead. The teams traded free throws over the course of the next 4 minutes to bring the game to a 25-21 Raptors lead at the end of the 1st quarter.
2nd:
Through 3 minutes of sloppy play by both teams, the Raptors managed to convert a few additional two pointers to give them a 31-23 lead. The Celtics two way players Tremont Waters and Tacko Fall took over for a quick stretch on both ends of the floor to bring the Raptors lead to 36-34. The teams traded twos for a few minutes to tie the game at 40-40, followed by a Henry Ellenson and-1 and a Oshea Brissett three pointer to give the Raptors a 46-42 lead. Wayne Blackshear then answered the Raptors run with a three to bring it to a 46-45 Raptors lead. The teams once again were trading two pointers back and fourth to give the Raptors a 51-50 lead with one minute left in the half. The half ended with a powerful finish from Tacko Fall, as he backed down Henry Ellenson to bring the game to a 53-52 Raptors lead.
3rd:
Out of the half, the Red Claws continued to feed the ball to Tacko Fall in the post, but the faced paced offense of the Raptors led to two three pointers by Oshae Brissett and a layup from Henry Ellenson to give the Raptors a 63-54 lead. The effort of Devin Robinson and Malcom Miller led to two straight second chance basket for the Raptors to take a 65-54 lead. Yante Maten halted the Raptors run with an easy layup. Devin Robinson and Jaysean Paige traded threes to make it a 70-61 Raptors lead. The Raptors picked up their defensive pressure and converted on the offensive end to stretch the lead to 78-65, leading to a Red Claws timeout with 5 minutes to go in the quarter. The Raptors came out of the timeout and continued to be aggressive on both sides of the court and stretched their lead to 85-65. Tremont Waters halted the Raptors run by getting to the hoop for two and then finding Tacko Fall for an easy dunk on the next possession to cut the Raptors lead to 85-69. With the help of a peir of Yante Maten and Trey Davis two pointers, the Red Claws are able to chip away at the Raptors lead, making it 91-77 at the end of the 3rd quarter.
4th:
Devin Robinson and Trey Davis traded two pointers to start the 4th quarter, followed by a second chance basket from Oshae Brissett to give the Raptors a 95-79 lead. The Red Claws moved to ball around to find Tremont Waters who converted a three to make it a 95-84 Raptors lead. Devin Robinson came out of the timeout with a thunderous block that led to a monster dunk on the other end and a 99-86 Raptors lead. Yante Maten came out of the timeout and threw down two consecutive dunks, followed by a Trey Davis and-1 to bring the Raptors lead down to 99-91. Out of the Raptors timeout, they brought back the defensive intensity from earlier in the contest and went on an 8-0 run to take a 106-91 lead. The Red Claws answered with a 8-0 run of their own built on a Kaiser Gates 1 for 3 free throw, and a Tremont Waters three pointer to bring it to a 106-97 Raptors lead. Yante Maten took over late in the game to bring it to a 111-107 Raptors lead. When it came down to crunch time, the Red Claws could not convert a three pointer in there last possessions and the Raptors four point lead proved to be enough to fend off the Red Claws, and the Raptors stretched their lead to 116-109 with free throws.
The Red Claws' road trip continues tomorrow at Westchester. Maine returns home Thursday with a showdown with Lakeland.
