
Red Claws Lose Lead, Fall to Swarm

Greensboro, NC - The Maine Red Claws, presented by Unum, lost an early lead and could not keep pace with the Greensboro Swarm Sunday, falling on the road 109-100.
Maine (17-26) was led by Boston Celtics assignee Guerschon Yabusele with 23 points and 7 rebounds. Kadeem Allen added 17 points, 5 boards and 6 assists for Maine, Devin Williams another double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Trey Davis added 14 points off the bench, Daniel Dixon tallied 13 points and L.J. Peak added 12.
Greensboro (14-28) was led by Cat Barber with 29 points, veteran Damien Wilkins with 28 points and Marcus Paige with 21 in the win.
Dixon and Allen scored the first field goals of the game to give the Red Claws an early 6-2 lead. Dixon buried a corner three to put Maine up 5, and Brown followed that up with a trey to make it 16-8 Claws. L.G. Gill got to the line for three the hard way to get the Swarm back into the game. The Red Claws took a 29-23 lead after the 1st quarter.
In the 2nd, Cat Barber go to the free throw line for three to cut it to a 1 point game. The Swarm took the lead on a 9-0 run to start the quarter. Yabusele's first bucket of the game helped the Claws keep pace. Barber's three-point play put Greensboro up 41-37. Davis' nifty three-point play cut it back to 3, and Yabusele rattled home a three to tie the game at 43. Williams gave Maine a two point lead, but Gill's corner three gave Greensboro a 50-47 lead at halftime. Maine was out-scored 27-18 in the 2nd, and shot 37% (15-41) in the first half, including 25% (4-16) from downtown. Greensboro shot 38% (17-45) from the floor, with Barber leading all scorers with 16 points at the break.
In the 3rd, Yabusele opened the scoring with a corner three. Yabusele's feed to Williams tied the game at 54. Marcus Paige buried back-to-back three's to extend the Swarm lead to 6. Allen rattled in a bucket to cut it to 73-68, but Barber continued to score at will. Damien Wilkins' three-point play gave Greensboro a 82-72 lead after 3.
Barber opened the 4th with a driving lay-up, and followed that up with a fadeaway jumper to put Greensboro up 14. Dixon dropped in a three to stop the bleeding. Yabusele buried a three to cut it to 88-80. Wilkins' impossible shot put the Swarm back up 10. Yabusele buried a deep three, and Williams' bucket got it to a 7 point game. Wilkins continued strong play down the stretch to put the game away.
Maine shot 42% (33-78) from the field, 34% (10-29) from three-point range, and 24-31 from the free throw line. Greensboro shot 47% (39-83) from the floor, 26% (6-23) from downtown, and 25-28 from the charity stripe.
