Red Bulls Draw Nashville SC, 1-1, on MLS Decision Day

November 7, 2021 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
New York Red Bulls News Release

The New York Red Bulls (13-12-9, 48 points) tied Nashville SC (12-4-18, 54 points), 1-1, on Sunday afternoon at Nissan Stadium.

New York opened the scoring in the 1st minute, when Caden Clark played a through ball down the right side of the field for midfielder Cristian Cásseres, Jr., who delivered in a cross into Nashville's eighteen-yard box. Fábio brought down the cross and passed it by Joe Willis to give the Red Bulls the lead.

Nashville equalized the game in the 37th minute after they earned a set piece opportunity right outside the edge of New York's box. Midfielder Hany Mukhtar stepped up and scored the free-kick.

With the draw, New York clinched their 12th consecutive postseason appearance, which is the longest streak of any New York metro area sports team and is the second longest active streak in Major League Soccer.

After starting the season with a 1-8-2 record on the road, New York earned a mark of 4-1-1 in their final six road matches while outscoring their opponents, 9-3, in those matches.

Fábio recorded his seventh goal of the season, which ranks second for the club this season. His goal of 35 seconds is the quickest goal scored for New York this season.

Cásseres, Jr. tallied his fourth assist of the season, which tied his career-high for assists in a season. He had four assists in 2019.

Clark recorded his fifth assist of the season and his first assist on the road this year. He currently ranks third in the club in assists this year.

Goalkeeper Carlos Coronel finished the regular season with 13 shutouts, which is tied for first in MLS.

The Brazilian goalkeeper's 0.97 goals against average this year is tied for the second lowest in franchise history in a single season.

Since August 4, New York have only allowed 13 goals, which is the lowest in MLS during that timespan. In the 19 matches during that time, New York have recorded nine clean sheets.

The Red Bulls only allowed 33 goals this season, which is tied for the second lowest in MLS this year and the second lowest in a 34-game schedule in franchise history.

New York Captain Sean Davis is one of three MLS outfield players to play every minute of every game this season and has become the first Red Bulls outfield player to accomplish that since Tim Ream in 2010.

Following Sunday's match, New York will travel to Subaru Park to battle Philadelphia Union in Round One of the 2021 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs with a date and time to be determined.
