Columbus Crew SC News Release
COLUMBUS - Columbus Crew today announced that midfielder Lucas Zelarayan has received an international call-up from the Armenia National Team ahead of 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers during the November international window.
Zelarayan will join Armenia for two group-stage matches in UEFA qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. In Group J action, Armenia is set to host North Macedonia (November 11) and Germany (November 14), with both matches taking place at Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium in Yerevan, Armenia. The midfielder has earned two caps for Armenia, last featuring in a FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Romania earlier this year (October 11).
A 2021 MLS All-Star, Zelarayan has made 31 regular-season appearances (27 starts) while registering 11 goals (three game-winning goals) and seven assists (one game-winning assist) this year, leading the Black & Gold in both categories. Additionally, the playmaker was named the GEICO Man of the Match for his performance versus Liga MX side Cruz Azul in the 2021 Campeones Cup, helping the Crew win its first international trophy.
Columbus Crew's current roster features 12 players that have received a senior National Team call-up: Harrison Afful, Luis Diaz, Derrick Etienne, Jr., Waylon Francis, Liam Fraser, Perry Kitchen, Jonathan Mensah, Kevin Molino, Darlington Nagbe, Eloy Room, Gyasi Zardes and Lucas Zelarayan.
Later today, the Black & Gold host Chicago Fire FC at Lower.com Field for a Decision Day contest [3:30 p.m. ET / Bally Sports Great Lakes, Bally Sports App (Stream) / 1460 ESPN (English); ColumbusCrew.com (Spanish)].
