LAFC Fall in Colorado in Season Ending Loss
November 7, 2021 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Los Angeles FC News Release
The Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) suffered a 5-2 loss to the Colorado Rapids on the road Sunday evening in the final regular season game of 2021. The loss eliminated LAFC from the MLS Cup Playoffs for the first time in Club history, as the Black & Gold finished with a 12-9-13 (W-T-L) record and 45 points.
A win could have given LAFC a chance to make the Playoffs for the fourth straight season, but the first place Rapids used a goal from Jonathan Lewis in the 18th minute to take a lead they would not relinquish. Needing the victory, LAFC pushed forward attempting to score, but Collen Warner scored in the 33rd minute and Lewis found the back of the net again in the 53rd minute to give the Rapids a 3-0 lead.
The Black & Gold did not give up, as Cristian Arango continued his scoring streak, knocking in his 14th goal of the season in the 55th minute, but Cole Bassett scored for Colorado in the 63rd minute and Dominique Badji finished the scoring in the 79th minute after Brian Rodriguez found the back of the net for LAFC in the 71st minute.
