
Records Fall in Interesting Lynx Season

AUGUSTA, GAâ The Augusta Lynx 2002-2003 season rewrote the record books with over 20 new records being established both for the good and the bad. In what turned out to be one of the more interesting and entertaining seasons in Lynx franchise history, we've compiled a list of the ten most compelling occurrences throughout the 2002-2003 campaign.
TOP TEN LIST:
10 - No penalty minutes in the final game of the season, only the 3rd time in the league's 15 year history that this has occurred.
9 - Lynx win only 9 Road games, new franchise low
8 - Lynx finish 27th on the power play, ranked last
7 - Ref Jim Combs places all 10 skaters in the penalty box at the 7:59 mark of the 3rd period in a game vs. Columbia
6 - Lynx use 46 different players throughout the season, including 86 separate transactions, 14 trades, 25 assignments or reassignments from AHL, 5 players waived or released, and 5 different emergency back-up goaltenders
5 - Trainer Brian Patafie dresses as an emergency back-up goaltender and records 10 minutes in penalties writing his name in the ECHL record books
4 - Goaltender Curtis Cruickshank dresses as a forward and plays in two games, he doesn't get a shift
3 - Emergency Goaltender Grant Van Laar, who played the goalie in the movie "Mystery Alaska", allows 3 goals on 8 shots in the third period of a game in Johnstown
2 - Goaltender Tom Draper does a rare drop-kick and PUNTS the puck out of the zone clear past the center red line bringing the crowd to it's feet, the punt had a hang time of roughly 4 seconds
1 - Trainer Brian Patafie sends the faithful into a frenzy when he does his own rendition of the Cotton Eye Joe Dance at center ice, fans shower him with dollar bills on the Lynx player's bench and ask for a curtain call

In addition, this season saw the Lynx scored their 1,000th goal and pick up their 100th home win in franchise history.
