GREENSBORO GENERALS VS. ROANOKE EXPRESS – GAME 1

The Greensboro Generals and Roanoke Express begin their best-of-five northeast division semi-final series tonight. The winner of the series will advance to the northeast division finals against either the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies or the Trenton Titans. Greensboro finished the regular season in second place with a 42-21-9 record for 93 points, shattering a franchise record in the process. The Express were third in the division, posting a 42-24-6 record for 90 points. The Generals were paced offensively by three different players in the season series against the Express, with Sam Ftorek (2g, 4a), Mark Turner (1g, 5a), and Geno Parrish (0g, 6a) each notching six points. Jason Jaffray led the way against Greensboro this year with eight points (2g, 6a), while Joe Dusbabek connected for four goals against Greensboro. Greensboro's Daniel Berthiaume played solidly against the team he played the last five season's for, posting a 3-1-1 record, with a 2.79 goals against average and .918 save percentage, while Roanoke's Evan Lindsay was 2-2-0 against the Generals with a 3.22 goals against average and .914 save percentage.

¨ The Generals are making their first ever playoff appearance tonight in their four-year history.

¨ Greensboro comes into tonight's game having won a franchise record seven straight games to finish the regular season, finishing one point out of first place.

¨ The Generals were second in the league in the regular season in penalty killing at 85.2 %.

¨ The Generals have four players on their roster who used to play for Roanoke—Daniel Berthiaume, Pete Gardiner, Derrick Byfuglien, and Mike Oliveira.

ABOUT THE GAME

The Generals and Express met seven times in the regular season. Greensboro was 3-3-1 against Roanoke this season, winning two of three games in Greensboro, while going 1-2-1 at the Roanoke Civic Center. The Generals also won the last two contests against Roanoke in the final ten days of the regular season, winning 4-1 in Roanoke on March 23 and 4-2 in Greensboro on March 26. Greensboro's all-time record against the Express is 13-14-2. NEXT HOME GAME: Game two of the northeast division semi-finals between the Generals and Express is tomorrow night at 7:30 at the Greensboro Coliseum. The series then moves to Roanoke for game three on Saturday night at 7:35, and game four (if necessary) on Tuesday night at 7:05. If a game five be necessary, it will be played at the Triangle SportsPlex in Hillsborough, NC on Wednesday, April 9 at 8:30 p.m. The reason for the venue is a conflict with a previously scheduled event at the Greensboro Coliseum.
