Generals Firm Up Game 5 Date
April 3, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greensboro Generals News Release
Greensboro, NC â The Greensboro Generals of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) have announced the date and location for their fifth and deciding game against the Roanoke Express in the Northeast Division Semi-Finals of the Kelly Cup playoffs. Should the game need to be played, it will be held on Wednesday, April 9 at 8:30 p.m. at the Triangle SportsPlex, located at One Dan Kidd Drive in Hillsborough, North Carolina. The game will only be played if the two teams are tied at two games a piece in the best-of-five series.
Tickets for the game will be $15.00 across the board. They will be available only if game five is necessary on Wednesday at the Greensboro Generals business offices starting at 9:00 a.m. They will also be on sale at the SportsPlex starting at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday if the game is to be played. The arena holds about 1,500 â 2,000 spectators, with both bleachers and standing room space available on a first-come, first-served basis. As a note to fans, the arena is chilly, and it is suggested you bring a jacket along with a blanket and/or seat cushion for the concrete bleachers.
The Triangle SportsPlex is approximately 40 minutes away from the Greensboro Coliseum. To get there from Greensboro, take Interstate 40/85 toward Raleigh. Stay on Interstate 85 after the two highways split, then take Exit 165 in Hillsborough. Turn left at the off ramp onto Airport Rd., follow it for ½ miles, and turn right onto Business Route 70. Follow Route 70 for another ½ mile and turn right onto Meadowland Dr., and the Triangle SportsPlex will be immediately on your left.
The Generals have home-ice advantage for the series by virtue of their second place finish in the division, but they couldn't get ice in their home arena for the fifth and deciding game of the best-of-five series due to scheduling conflicts with the Greensboro Coliseum.
The Generals have their first playoff game in their four-year franchise history tonight at 7:00 against the Express. Even in the playoffs, Thursday's game is a "Thirsty Thursday," with R. H. Barringer offering dollar drafts all night long. They also host the Express tomorrow night at 7:30 in Game 2 of the series. All playoff games will air live on WPET AM-950 and online at www.greensborogenerals.com.
