Record Tying Night For Calgary Hitmen In Win Over Saskatoon

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen tied a franchise record with their 30th home ice win of the season in a 5-1 win over the East Division leading Saskatoon Blades Wednesday night.
The 1999/2000 Hitmen also had 30 home ice wins in a single season.
After a scoreless first period the Hitmen exploded to build a 4-0 lead after forty minutes. Brett Sonne led the scoring attack with three points (1g 2a) while Joel Broda, Carson McMillan and Paul Postma also scored in the middle frame.
Kyle Bortis added another goal for Calgary in the third period while Michael Stone finished with two assists.
Martin Jones made 26 saves to tie a franchise record for most wins by a Hitmen goalie in a single season with 39. Jones now shares the mark with Alexandre Fomitchev who set the record in the 1998/99 season.
At 52-7-3-1, Calgary leads the Western Hockey League Standings. They sit eight points ahead of the Vancouver Giants for first place overall.
The Hitmen will return to action on Friday night to host the Red Deer Rebels. It's the third annual Hitmen head shave for cancer. Game time is 7:00 p.m. at the Pengrowth Saddledome.
