Everett Silvertips News Release
EVERETT, Wash. - Riley Sutter had a goal and added an assist while Carter Hart turned in 23 saves as the Everett Silvertips led wire to wire in a 4-1 victory over the Swift Current Broncos before 4,089 fans in downtown Everett on Sunday.
The Silvertips won their seventh game in a row to keep their hold on first place in the U.S. Division, 13-2 in the last 15 homes games. They also won their sixth in a row over Swift Current, now 11-4 in the all-time series. Wyatte Wylie supplied two assists from the blueline while firing six shots on net.
UP NEXT: The Tips host the Seattle Thunderbirds, up next on Friday at 7:35 p.m. (1380 AM & 95.3 / Tips App / WHL Live) at Angel of the Winds Arena in downtown Everett, with doors opening at 6:00 pm Hockey Happy Hour (presented by BroadStroke Associates). Tickets are on sale at www.everettsilvertips.com/hhh.
Garrett Pilon finished off a masterful backdoor feed from Connor Dewar at the right post for a 1-0 lead at 3:33, and the Tips tacked on 47 seconds later on a Sean Richards deflection, from Matt Fonteyne's right circle blast, for a 2-0 lead.
Swift Current responded from a time-out and Andrew Fyten buried a rebound at 8:59 of the first period to get the Broncos back in the game, 2-1.
Broncos goaltender Stuart Skinner appeared to deny Riley Sutter for good on a remarkable save where he flared his right pad in the second period on Sutter's chance from in close, but Sutter tucked the rebound for his 20th goal at 4:04 of the second period for a 3-1 advantage.
With the Silvertips continuously frustrating Alexsi Heponiemi, Tyler Steenbergen and Glenn Gawdin - the Broncos top three scorers combining for over 240 points, the third period provided an outlet to close out Swift Current. Matt Fonteyne's dagger - a snapper from the top of the right circle - put the Tips up 4-1 at 14:59 of the third period, triggering a scrum after Giorgio Estephan cross checked Fonteyne during the goal celebration.
Hart's big save in the third period came on Broncos rookie defenseman Jacson Alexander, a right pad save covering a previously half open net. The Tips evaded a major penalty out of the scrum and closed out the game with the edge in shots, 34-24.
Notes: Silvertips scratches included Gianni Fairbrother (injury, week to week), Akash Bains (injury, week-to-week), Jameson Murray (healthy), Bronson Sharp (healthy) and Dawson Butt (healthy) ... Fonteyne has 22 points in the last 8 games ... before the game, the Silvertips honored five players covering the two teams who participated in the World Juniors: gold medalists Hart and Steenbergen of Canada, Ondrej Vala of the Czech Republic, Artyom Minulin of Russia, and Heponiemi of Russia ... Sutter hit the 20-goal plateau (tied career-high) for the second straight year.
