March 11, 2017 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Offense came pouring from up and down the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins' roster, as eight different players scored in their 8-1 win over the Hartford Wolf Pack on Friday night at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.
The Penguins (40-17-3-0) became the first team in the American Hockey League to reach 40 wins this season as multiple players put up career nights. Jean-Sébastien Dea, Kevin Porter and Barry Goers all had three-point games - Goers' first of his AHL career - while Derrick Pouliot stole the show with the first four-point outing (1G-3A) of his career.
Pouliot blasted home Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's first goal of the game at 6:27 of the first period, and then set up Jarrett Burton less than three minutes later to make it 2-0.
After the Penguins forced an offensive zone turnover, Porter gathered a rebound off of a point shot and tucked it into the Wolf Pack net with 17.2 seconds left in the opening frame. The goal not only gave Wilkes-Barre/Scranton a 3-0 lead going into the first intermission, but earned Porter his 300th point as a pro.
The Penguins increased their lead to 4-0 with a redirect by Dea 5:50 into the second period. With an assist from Goers, the defenseman notched the 100th point of his pro career.
Taylor Beck got Hartford on the board with a heavy snap shot from the high slot near the midway mark of the game, but Wilkes-Barre/Scranton swiftly reestablished its four-goal advantage with a tally by Sahir Gill.
Dominik Simon, Tom Kostopoulos and Goers added goals in the third period to bring the game to its final score.
Casey DeSmith stopped 19 of 20 shots faced to register his 16th victory of the season. Mackenzie Skapski made 27 saves while manning the crease for Hartford.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's next game is tomorrow, Saturday, Mar. 11, when it takes on the Providence Bruins at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza. Puck drop for the Penguins' clash with the P-Bruins is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
