REBELS RECAP

It's been a tough go so far for the Red Deer Rebels on their five-game eastern road trip with their winless streak having reached a season-long four games (0-2-0-2).

SUN. FEB. 4 - A third period hat trick by Kai Uchacz wasn't enough as the Rebels fell 7-6 to the host Regina Pats in a Sunday matinee thriller at the Brandt Centre. Jhett Larson had a career-high four assists for the Rebels. Frantisek Formanek, Mats Lindgren and Kalan Lind each scored once.

SAT. FEB. 3 - The Moose Jaw Warriors scored twice in each period in a 6-3 win over the Rebels at the Moose Jaw Events Centre. Jeramiah Roberts, Kai Uchacz and Carson Birnie scored for Red Deer. Moose Jaw outshot Red Deer 35-26 and was 1-for-3 on the power play while Red Deer was 1-for-5. Moose Jaw also scored a shorthanded goal.

FRI. FEB. 2 - The Rebels suffered their first regulation loss of 2024 at the hands of the Brandon Wheat Kings by a score of 4-1 at Westoba Place. Matteo Fabrizi scored Red Deer's lone goal of the game in period two. Frantisek Formanek and Jhett Larson earned assists for their second points in as many games. Red Deer outshot Brandon 40-21 on the night and was 0-for-3 on the power play while the Wheat Kings were 2-for-4.

WED. JAN. 31 - The Rebels erased a two-goal third period deficit to run their point streak to 13 games in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Prince Albert Raiders at the Art Hauser Centre. Kai Uchacz, Frantisek Formanek and Kalan Lind scored for Red Deer. Uchacz also had a pair of assists. Red Deer outshot Prince Albert 46-25 on the night and was 1-for-4 on the power play while the Raiders were 2-for-6.

UPCOMING GAMES

The Rebels finish their five-game road trip Tuesday night, February 6 versus the Swift Current Broncos. Puck drop is at 6 p.m. MT.

Then it's back to the Peavey Mart Centrium this Friday, February 9 as the Rebels host the Moose Jaw Warriors at 7 p.m.

Saturday, the Rebels head south to Medicine Hat to battle the Tigers for the final time this season. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.

WUTZKE WALL

For the second-straight month, Rebels rookie Chase Wutzke is the WHL Goaltender of the Month. He was also named to the CHL Team of the Month for January. The Debden, SK native was superb in nine starts, going 8-0-1-0 with a 1.98 goals-against average and .929 save-percentage. Twice during the month Wutzke was named WHL Goaltender of the Week. He was also The Dub's top goalie for the month of December. The 6-foot-2 netminder was selected by Red Deer in the second round, 40th overall in the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft. NHL Central Scouting has ranked Wutzke 13th among North American goalies in its midterm rankings for the 2024 NHL Draft.

COBRA KAI

With his third period hat trick Sunday versus Regina, Rebels captain Kai Uchacz has now scored 100 goals in his WHL career. Uchacz has scored 97 goals with the Rebels, tying him with Ben King for fifth-most in franchise history.

JHETT FUELED

Jhett Larson's four-point performance Sunday in Regina helped him fly past the 100-point mark for his career.

80'S/NICKELODEON NIGHT

RE/MAX Presents: Nickelodeon Nights for Children's Miracle Network is a charitable initiative driven by RE/MAX in partnership with Paramount Global, the parent company of global kids and family brand Nickelodeon. The 2022-23 edition saw nearly $160,000 raised in support of Children's Hospital Foundations across Western Canada. The Rebels will be taking part when the host the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday, February 9th at 7 p.m. Stay tuned to Rebels social media in the days leading up to the game to see what Nickelodeon-themed special jerseys the club will be wearing that night.

SOCKEY DAY IN RED DEER

When the Rebels host the Lethbridge Hurricanes for a Family Day Matinee on Monday, February 19th at 2 p.m. it will once again be Sockey Day in Red Deer in support of United Way Central Alberta. Fans attending the game will receive a pair of socks, provided by generous community partners, or bring their own to toss on the ice during the game. These socks will be gathered by volunteers and distributed through various agencies to people in need throughout central Alberta. More details at caunitedway.ca.
