Rebels Stay Hot at Hitmen's Expense
November 19, 2021 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Calgary Hitmen News Release
The Red Deer Rebels extended their season high winning streak to four games with a 2-0 victory over the Calgary Hitmen on Friday night at Peavey Mart Centrium.
Arshdeep Bains on a first period power play and Blake Stevenson into an empty net provided all the scoring the home side would need. The Bains marker was his fifth goal and seventh point in four games against the Hitmen this season.
Another key for the Rebels was the play of goaltender Chase Coward who made 22 saves to record his first career Western Hockey League shutout. Among his work was a second period penalty shot save off Hitmen sniper Sean Tschigerl skating in his 100th career game.
The Rebels, who surrendered the first eight shots on goal, outshot the Hitmen 34-22 as Brayden Peters also turned in a strong night with the Calgary goaltender recording 32 saves.
Red Deer, playing their first home game after seven straight on the road, improves to 13-6-1-0 while Calgary drops to 7-8.
The Hitmen will now enjoy a one day break before heading to the provincial capital on Sunday, Nov. 21 for a date with the Edmonton Oil Kings. Game time is 4:00 p.m. at Rogers Place. Calgary then returns home for the start of four straight at Scotiabank Saddledome beginning Saturday, Nov. 27 against Saskatoon. Game time is 1:30 p.m.
The Hitmen will also welcome Regina (Nov. 28), Moose Jaw (Dec. 2) and Lethbridge (Dec. 4) during the upcoming homestand.
