Pats Alumnus Hobbs to Represent Canada at FISU Winter Universiade

Toronto, Ont. - Regina Pats alumnus Connor Hobbs will represent Canada at the 30th FISU Winter Universiade, held from December 11-21 in Lucerne, Switzerland.

U SPORTS announced earlier this week that 102 student-athletes in seven sports will travel to Switzerland to take part in the event, originally scheduled for January 2021. The men's hockey team will send a roster of 23 players, including 10 former WHL players.

Hobbs, 24, is currently playing for the University of Saskatchewan Huskies, where he has posted eight points in six game this season (2G-6A). The right-shot defenceman spent most of his WHL career with the Pats, recording 142 points in 158 games from 2014-17. He was a fifth-round selection of the Washington Capitals in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft and subsequently played 119 games in the AHL for the Hershey Bears, before coming back to Saskatchewan.

Three of Hobbs' teammates will join him overseas: Gordon Ballhorn, Jared Dmytriw and Donovan Neuls.

The Lucerne 2021 Opening Ceremony will take place on December 11 at 7:30 p.m. (1:30 p.m. EST, 10:30 a.m. PST). However, curling and ice hockey matches will occur in the days leading up to the official opening.
