Real Salt Lake Hosts Seattle Sounders FC in Fifth Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup

SANDY, Utah - Real Salt Lake will host Seattle Sounders FC in its match in the Round of 16 of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday, June 28 at Rio Tinto Stadium. Kickoff for the game will be at 8:00 p.m. MT.

U.S. Soccer announced the draw for the Round of 16 and Quarterfinals on Thursday, setting the regional matchups for the next two rounds. RSL will host the Sounders on June 28 and if the Claret-and-Cobalt advances will go on the road to meet the winner of the fifth-round match between the LA Galaxy and Portland Timbers.

RSL came back from a 2-0 second-half deficit to rally behind goals from FW Joao Plata and FW Juan Manuel Martinez to earn a draw against the Wilmington Hammerheads of the USL on Tuesday at Rio Tinto Stadium in the fourth round of the tournament. After 30 minutes of extra time, Salt Lake advanced after winning a shootout 3-1, with DF Chris Wingert scoring the deciding penalty in the fourth round after GK Jeff Attinella saved the previous attempt by Wilmington.

This will be the second match between Real Salt Lake and Seattle Sounders FC this year after a 2-1 RSL win at Rio Tinto Stadium on March 12. It is the first meeting between the two clubs in the U.S. Open Cup, although they met in a play-in match in Seattle in 2009.
