Orlando City SC News Release
ORLANDO, Fla. - Orlando City SC will face the North American Soccer League's (NASL) Fort Lauderdale Strikers in the Round of 16 of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday, June 29, at Camping World Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
Ticket sales information will be announced at a later date.
"It will be another difficult game for us. Anybody who plays us from Florida will be incredibly motivated for obvious reasons. We're the MLS club and take most of the lion's share of publicity and news," Lions Head Coach Adrian Heath said. "We played them during preseason here and they were incredibly aggressive on the night, so we don't expect anything different. It's another opportunity for us, we're at home so we have everything to give. "
The Lions advanced to the Round of 16 by defeating Jacksonville Armada FC 1-0 with a David Mateos goal assisted by Júlio Baptista in the 62nd minute. City holds a 11-5 all-time record in the U.S. Open Cup, dating back to its first appearance in 2011.
Fort Lauderdale reached the fifth round following penalty shootout victories over the United Soccer League's Richmond Kickers on June 1 and Major League Soccer's D.C. United on June 15.
City defeated the Strikers 2-0 on February 24 at Sylvan Lake Park in their only previous meeting, with second-half goals from attackers Hadji Barry and Pedro Ribeiro.
