Houston Dynamo FC News Release
The Houston Dynamo advanced to the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 with a 4-0 win over San Antonio FC at BBVA Compass Stadium on Wednesday night.
Mauro Manotas and Alex scored late in the first half for a 2-0 lead, then Raúl RodrÃguez and Leonel Miranda piled on in the second half for the fourth round victory.
Manotas got the scoring started in the 39th minute, taking a long touch to his left across the box. A San Antonio FC defender whiffed on his attempt to intercept the ball, allowing Manotas to recover on the other side and coolly finished with his left foot to the near post.
The Dynamo doubled the lead just before the half on a set play. Boniek GarcÃa played a corner kick short to DaMarcus Beasley, who whipped in a left-footed cross across the goal. David Rocha headed the ball along in the box, where Alex was waiting at the back post to knee it in.
Second half substitute Raúl RodrÃguez made it 3-0 at the hour mark. After Beasley drew a foul on the left flank, Rocha sent in a driven free kick to the near post. RodrÃguez leaned forward on his run and deflected the ball past the keeper and inside the far post.
Leonel Miranda put the match to bed six minutes later with an open goal finish. Cristian Maidana intercepted a pass in the offensive third and immediately found Alex at the edge of the box in between the San Antonio defenders. As the goalkeeper rushed off his line, Alex slotted a pass across the penalty area for Miranda, who one-timed it into the net.
