Real Salt Lake Head to Portland Wednesday Night
August 29, 2023 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Real Salt Lake News Release
SANDY, Utah - Following a trio of losses in Leagues Cup, the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and Major League Soccer league action over the last three weeks, Real Salt Lake (10-8-7, 37 pts, t-3rd West) continues its 2023 MLS campaign with a midweek trip on Wednesday, traveling to face the Portland Timbers (6-11-8, 26 pts., 12th West). RSL will then return home for a Saturday match against Rocky Mountain Cup rivals Colorado Rapids (3-11-10, 19 pts., 14th West) on a Fireworks Night at America First Field in Sandy (7:30p MT; tickets available at www.RSL.com/tickets).
Real Salt Lake arrives in Portland with an active eight-game road unbeaten streak in MLS action, the Claret-and-Cobalt last dropping an away decision in League play back on April 15 at Dallas. RSL played at Portland back on May 10, winning a see-saw, 4-3 decision in the Open Cup's fourth round, the Utah side rebounding from both 0-1 and 2-3 deficits to win, courtesy a Maikel Chang brace, Gavin Beavers' heroics and one-goal/one-assist performances from both Danny Musovski and Andrés Gómez.
Since the Pablo Ruiz injury on August 8, RSL has now suffered three losses in as many matches across a trio of competitions, RSL dropping four out of five overall for the second time this season, each slide bracketing a run that saw Head Coach Pablo Mastroeni's team lose just three games in a 23-game run from April 8 to August 4. The recent three-game slide in back-to-back Leagues Cup and Open Cup losses at LAFC August 8 and at Houston the last two matchdays mark just the sixth and seventh times in Head Coach Pablo Mastroeni's 88 matches at the helm that the team has dropped consecutive matches, and the first since March 25/April 1 of this season.
Wednesday's kickoff at Portland starts at 8:30p MT on Apple TV+ / MLS Season Pass w/ Steve Cangialosi and Danny Higgenbotham (ENG), and Ramses Sandoval & Mariano Trujillo (SPN). For local coverage, tune in at 7:30p MT for KSL Radio pre-game w/ David James & Jay Nolly via www.KSLSports.com / 1280 AM / 97.5 FM and www.KSLNewsRadio.com / 1160 AM).
